Position Summary
Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Editor for MediaLab - Boca Raton, FL.
The School of Communication and Multimedia Studies seeks a part-time editor of MediaLab@FAU, a news-academic partnership serving South Florida. MediaLab@FAU publishes stories reported and written by students, guided by experienced journalism faculty. Since Fall 2023, MediaLab has provided reliable, original content for major local media outlets including The Palm Beach Post, The South Florida Sun-Sentinel and WLRN. Our work has also been published in other NPR affiliates and medium-sized newspapers across Florida. Our dynamic project has recently been awarded a grant from Press Forward, a national movement to strengthen communities by reinvigorating local news.
Summary Of Responsibilities
Explore Living in Palm Beach County
The goal is to provide local employers and new employees in the area a comprehensive guide with places to live.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Journalism, Communications, Mass Communication/Media Studies or an appropriate area of specialization required.
Proven experience as a news editor or in a similar editorial role required
Familiarity with digital media, SEO, and content management systems required.
Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills.
Excellent news judgment and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Strong understanding of media ethics and journalistic integrity.
Bilingual Spanish language fluency a plus.
Position can be in-person or hybrid/remote, but preference will be given to candidates who can work in-person on the Boca Raton campus at least once a week.
Salary
$25.00 per hour.

- Edit news and feature stories for clarity, brevity, accuracy, grammar and adherence to AP style.
- Write headlines and subheadlines that maximize SEO.
- Coordinate with senior editors to align coverage with publication goals.
- Mentor student journalists by providing meaningful feedback and professional guidance.
- Stay updated on state and local news.
- Be familiar with best practices in journalism and industry-wide ethical standards.
- Convert stories into social media posts on platforms such as Instagram and LinkedIn.
