Government Relations Manager, Trade and Tax Policy

For this U.S. based position, the expected compensation range is $136,000 - $204,000 per year, which includes base pay and short-term incentive.  

The compensation range for this full-time position applies to candidates located within the United States. Our salary ranges are determined by reviewing roles of similar responsibility and level. Within the salary range, individual pay is determined by several factors including performance, knowledge, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. An Exciting Opportunity at the Nexus of Politics, Energy, Technology, and Sustainability: The Manager, Government Relations, Trade and Tax Policy in Washington, DC USA - Schneider Electric will have an opportunity to support Schneider Electric’s government relations strategy in the United States by providing analysis, monitoring, and guidance on trade and tax policies. Specifically, the Manager will support the Chief Public Policy Officer and the Chief Federal Lobbyist by monitoring developments on topics including tariffs, trade negotiations, USMCA, CFIUS policy, export controls, and tax policy. Additionally, the Manager will be expected to support internal working groups and teams implementing and complying with policies relevant to their portfolio.

The Manager will support the Chief Public Policy Officer in advancement of the U.S. government relations strategy on international policy and diplomatic engagements, including through work with embassies, the State Department, and other relevant organizations.

The Manager will participate in critical industry organizations to promote a business and policy environment that align with the U.S. government relations strategy on trade and tax policy.  

Responsibilities will include:

• Support and enhance a targeted strategy for government relations to support the Chief Public Policy Officer and the Chief Federal Lobbyist, with a focus on Federal trade and tax policies.
• Establish regular communication and coordination strategy internally at Schneider Electric with relevant business units and cross-organizational support units regarding Federal trade and tax policy impacting the company.
• Support the Chief Federal Lobbyist with active intelligence, recommended policy positions, and internal coordination to optimize alignment.
• Engage in effective advocacy and communications with key stakeholders in government and industry associations to help advance Schneider Electric’s broader government relations strategy.
• Support advocacy strategies to build closer relationships on priority topics while raising awareness of Schneider’s role in job creation and domestic economic competitiveness.
• Create and organize targeted events in DC and on panels at major events to strengthen brand and voice on trade and tax topics.
• Create policy position papers on key trade and tax topics, including core messages for thought leadership and media outreach that connect to policy-specific outcomes.
• Attend and engage with trade and tax working groups in key associations and coordinate with other team members working on cross-cutting issues.
• Engage on key international issues involving tax, trade and energy markets with embassies, the Energy and Economic Bureaus of the State Department, USTR and the Department of Commerce, with a specific focus on Mexico and Canada.
• Engage directly with the Global leaders in the company to support their understanding of USA markets and regulations.
• Coordinate closely with internal stakeholders from multiple relevant functions in the company, including key Business Units, Global Supply Chain teams, or Human Resources.
• Lead regular updates and communications to a cross-functional community to maintain awareness and alignment on topics within portfolio.
• Drive and manage key deliverables from consultants and sponsored associations.

Location: This role is based in Washington, DC, and it involves occasional travel to key states or conferences.

• Have 3 - 5 years of experience covering trade, tax, and/or energy policy on Capitol Hill, a government agency, or industry association.
• Have experience drafting or analyzing Federal policy impacting trade and tax obligations for the energy and environment sector;
• Are eager to gain private sector experience and sharpen skills in business and corporate strategy;
• Enjoy socializing, networking and facilitating connections;
• Excel at managing numerous projects as a contributor and self-starter;
• Are organized and excel at creating and implementing systems;
• Have excellent written and oral communication skills (a writing sample will be required);
• Have experience in electrification, clean energy, or new energy landscape;
• Hold a degree in Political Science, Public Administration, International Affairs, Government Relations, Economics, Law, or similar;
