Dan’s Papers, the leading weekly news and lifestyle publication covering the entire East End of Long Island, is seeking a savvy photo editor to join our team. The ideal candidate is organized, comfortable working under deadline, a strong photographer, and lives in or near the Hamptons or on the North Fork.
The photo editor’s biggest responsibilities will include coordinating events that need to be covered, assigning photographers, ensuring captions and writeups match the photos, and working with graphic designers to get photos laid out in photo spreads that are a key part of the production of the weekly print publication.
We’re looking for an energetic multitasking team player who’s full of ideas, comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment, and familiar with the events and people on the East End.
Responsibilities:
- Assigning photographers to take pictures and captions of live events
- Coordinating with staff to get shot lists to photographers, when needed

Ensuring photographers turn in photos and captions in a timely manner
Shooting events as needed -
Choosing which photos and captions will appear in print
Providing photos, captions and short event writeups to graphic designers for layout -
Working with our team of editors to ensure photo spreads are error-free
Posting photo galleries of events to danspapers.com, Facebook and Instagram
Manage monthly photo contest submissions - Shooting/editing video
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- 2 years of photojournalism experience at a media outlet
- Capable of quickly coordinating photos and copy on tight deadlines
- Reliable transportation to photograph local news and events
- Must live on or near the East End

Must own an SLR camera and have photography skills
- Experience using WordPress, InCopy, Dropbox, WeTransfers, Google Drive and Photoshop or LightRoom retouching a plus but not required
- This position requires weekend availability, especially in summer.
