Scholar and a Dream is seeking an enthusiastic Mentorship Coordinator (Volunteer) to join our team! We are a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of minority students through scholarship, career development, and mentorship.
Project Dream is a comprehensive college and career development program designed for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) NYC public high school students entering the 11th grade. Our mission is to address and bridge the educational and career achievement gaps by providing students with essential exposure to knowledge, skills, and mentorship to support their post-secondary success.
Role Overview
The Volunteer Mentorship Coordinator will play a vital role in managing and enhancing the mentorship component of Project Dream. This position will oversee mentor recruitment, pairing, and engagement, while also providing support to both mentors and mentees to foster meaningful relationships. Additionally, this role will support the ongoing engagement of Scholar and a Dream’s college scholars, ensuring they have access to mentorship and resources that support their academic and professional growth.
Responsibilities
Mentorship Program Management:
- Recruit, onboard, and retain mentors who align with the program’s mission.
- Facilitate the matching of mentors and mentees based on career interests, personal development goals, and student needs.
- Organize and manage mentorship orientation sessions and ongoing training for mentors.
- Monitor mentorship relationships to ensure productive and beneficial engagements.
- Provide mentors with resources, guidance, and support to maximize their impact.
- Address any issues or challenges in mentor-mentee relationships and implement solutions as needed.
- Collaborate with the Program Coordinator to integrate mentorship sessions into the broader program calendar and align mentorship goals with student development activities.
College Scholar Support & Alumni Engagement:
- Maintain relationships with Scholar and a Dream alumni, fostering continued engagement through mentorship and professional development resources.
- Connect college students with industry mentors to provide guidance on career pathways.
- Track the progress of college scholars and alumni to assess program impact and opportunities for support.
Program Coordination & Administration:
- Maintain accurate records of mentorship pairings, participation, and engagement.
- Track mentor and mentee feedback to assess program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
- Assist in planning and executing mentorship-focused events, networking opportunities, and enrichment programs.
- Support the preparation of reports on mentorship program outcomes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Experience in mentorship, youth development, or program coordination.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Passion for educational equity and supporting BIPOC students in their academic and professional journeys.
Time Commitment
- Approximately 10-12 hours per week, with flexibility based on program needs.
- Availability for evening Project Dream workshops and occasional weekend events as required.
