The Campus Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing daily non-instructional operations to ensure a clean, safe, and organized environment that supports student learning and staff effectiveness. This includes direct supervision of custodial staff, management of facility inspections and maintenance, coordination of school transportation logistics, vendor management, student supervision, and emergency response coordination.
This role requires a detail-oriented leader who can manage multiple operational systems while maintaining strong relationships with staff, students, families, and service providers.
Key Responsibilities
Facilities Management
- Supervise custodial team to ensure cleanliness and upkeep of school buildings and grounds
- Schedule and document routine facility inspections; ensure timely resolution of findings
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and maintenance personnel for repairs and improvement projects
- Monitor safety and compliance standards, including fire safety, emergency access, and ADA requirements
- Enter repair and maintenance requests into the online operations platform and track progress to completion
- Manage procurement of facilities-related supplies and services in alignment with the school’s purchasing policies
- Understand and execute procurement procedures, including competitive bidding and vendor selection
Transportation Coordination
- Manage day-to-day student transportation operations, including bus routes, schedules, and coordination with drivers
- Communicate with external transportation providers and state transportation contacts
- Monitor and document transportation incidents, ensuring swift and effective follow-up
- Manage bus repairs, inspections, and weekly maintenance
- Manage bus drivers and provide training
Student Supervision & Support
- Assist with arrival, dismissal, hallway transitions, and common areas to maintain a safe, orderly environment
- Provide a visible presence during lunch, recess, and other non-instructional times
- Support behavior expectations and serve as an additional resource to instructional staff during high-traffic periods
Emergency Preparedness & Response
- Implement and oversee all required emergency drills (fire, lockdown, severe weather, etc.) in compliance with state and district guidelines
- Maintain detailed documentation of drills and report compliance data to appropriate agencies and school leadership
- Serve as the first responder to on-campus emergency situations, including medical, behavioral, or facility-related incidents
- Coordinate emergency response efforts with local authorities and support school-wide safety protocols
Administrative & Reporting
- Maintain accurate logs of inspections, custodial schedules, maintenance requests, transportation incidents, and vendor records
- Develop and implement daily, weekly, and seasonal operational checklists
- Prepare reports as needed to support compliance and strategic planning
- Assist campus leadership with logistical planning for emergency closures, special events, and campus-wide operations
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in facilities, transportation, or operations management
- Experience supervising custodial or maintenance teams
- Demonstrated ability to manage vendors and coordinate service contracts
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of school safety procedures, maintenance protocols, and compliance standards
- Ability to respond quickly and effectively to on-campus emergencies
- Availability after hours for emergencies and after school activities
Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with the following endorsements: School Bus (S) Endorsement: Specifically for operating school buses.
Preferred:
- Prior experience in a K–12 school setting
- Familiarity with state and local transportation and emergency response regulations
- Understanding of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and custodial systems
- Experience using facilities management or incident reporting software
