    Job Title: K-8 Library Media Specialist

    Location: Chichester Central School

    Reports To: Principal

    Position Overview:

    Chichester Central School is seeking a dynamic and innovative K-8 Library Media Specialist to join our team. This unique position will support our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) focused curriculum by managing and enhancing library services while also playing a pivotal role in integrating technology into classroom instruction. The ideal candidate will be passionate about fostering a love for reading, supporting the development of critical thinking skills, and helping students and teachers utilize technology effectively for learning.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Oversee the daily operations of the K-8 school library, ensuring a welcoming, organized, and resource-rich environment for students and staff.
    • Curate a diverse and up-to-date collection of books, digital resources, and other media that supports the school’s curriculum, STEAM initiatives, and students’ interests.
    • Collaborate with teachers to develop and deliver lessons that integrate information literacy, research skills, and digital citizenship into the curriculum.
    • Promote and lead library programs and events such as book fairs, author visits, reading challenges, and extracurricular activities.
    • Assist students in the development of reading and research skills, and support their exploration of various genres, media formats, and digital tools.
    • Organize and maintain library spaces to promote collaboration and independent learning.
    • Work closely with teachers to integrate technology effectively into daily lessons, supporting the school’s STEAM initiatives and enhancing student learning outcomes.
    • Provide training and ongoing professional development for staff on educational technology tools and resources.
    • Serve as a resource for classroom teachers in the selection and implementation of age-appropriate digital tools, apps, and software for research, creativity, coding, and STEM exploration.
    • Lead and support the implementation of technology-based projects and learning opportunities, such as coding clubs, robotics, virtual field trips, or media production.
    • Promote and model best practices in digital literacy and responsible technology use.
    • Assist with troubleshooting and technical support for classroom technology, ensuring smooth implementation of tech in lessons.

    • Collaboration & Communication:

      • Partner with classroom teachers to design cross-curricular projects that integrate library resources and technology, enhancing the overall learning experience.
      • Collaborate with administrators and staff to assess the effectiveness of library services and technology integration in achieving educational goals.
      • Maintain communication with parents and guardians regarding library programs, reading initiatives, and technology-related activities.
      • Stay current with trends in both library sciences and educational technology, bringing innovative ideas to the school.

    Qualifications:

    • Master's degree in Library Science, Information Studies, Educational Technology, or related field preferred.
    • Valid NH teaching certification in Library Media or Technology Integration (or the ability to obtain one).
    • Experience in K-8 education, with a focus on library media, technology integration, or STEAM education.
    • Strong understanding of current educational technologies, digital tools, and STEAM curriculum integration.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
    • Passion for fostering creativity, critical thinking, and a love of learning in students.
    • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

    Preferred Skills & Experience:

    • Experience working in a school with a STEAM model or integrated curriculum.
    • Familiarity with coding, robotics, 3D printing, or other STEAM technologies.
    • Knowledge of current trends in library media management, digital resources, and tech tools for education.
    • Ability to design and facilitate professional development for staff.
    • Experience in providing hands-on learning experiences through technology and library resources.
