Position Summary :
Bluff School is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Behavioral Support Interventionist who will play a crucial role in supporting students who exhibit challenging behaviors. In this role, you will work collaboratively with students, administration, teachers, and families to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities :
- Behavior Prevention and Management :
Implement proactive strategies to prevent the occurrence of challenging behaviors, such as creating positive behavioral support plans (PBSPs) and implementing classroom behavior management techniques.
Monitor student behavior in various settings (classroom, playground, lunchroom) and intervene as needed to de-escalate situations and maintain a safe and orderly learning environment.Utilize positive reinforcement techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors and build positive relationships with students.Intervention and Support :Provide individual and small group support to students who are struggling with emotional and behavioral challenges.
Implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIP) as directed, including the use of therapeutic techniques such as relaxation strategies, sensory integration activities, and social skills training.Collaborate with the student's multidisciplinary team (teachers, therapists, parents) to develop and implement effective interventions.Crisis Intervention :Respond to and de-escalate crisis situations calmly and effectively, ensuring the safety of all individuals involved.
Utilize de-escalation techniques, such as active listening, empathy, and verbal redirection, to manage challenging behaviors.Assist in implementing safety protocols and emergency procedures as needed.Data Collection and Reporting :Accurately document student behavior and intervention data.
Prepare and submit reports as required, including progress reports and incident reports.Participate in data review meetings and contribute to the ongoing evaluation of intervention effectiveness.Professional Development :Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities related to behavior management, trauma-informed care, and de-escalation techniques.
Stay current on best practices in the field of special education and student support.Collaboration and Communication :Maintain open and effective communication with students, teachers, parents, and other members of the school community.
Build and maintain positive relationships with students and their families.Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and other collaborative activities.Qualifications :
High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, or a related field preferred.Experience working with students with emotional and behavioral challenges preferred.Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles and practices.Strong understanding of positive behavior support (PBS) principles and practices.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.Ability to work effectively as part of a team.Strong de-escalation and crisis intervention skills.Completion of Safety Care training is required.Have Paraeducator 2 certification or obtain within one year of hire.Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to all school policies and procedures.To Apply :
