General Purpose:
To oversee the custodial duties of the school facility in order to provide students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn and develop.

Director of Facilities

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Except as specifically noted, the following functions are considered essential to this position:
- Responsible for the upkeep of the facility.
- Oversees the essential duties and responsibilities of the custodians in maintaining the facility.
- Makes arrangements for the staffing of custodians on a daily basis.
- Reports immediately to the Facilities Director any school property that is damaged or in need of repair.
- Reports to the Facilities Director any concerns about a custodians performance.
- Ensures custodial coverage on school premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the administrator.
- Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each day.
- Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and equipment on hand and requisitions replacements in a timely manner for continued smooth school operation.
- Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste in accordance with universal waste program.
- Conducts monthly Life Safety Equipment inspections and reports results to the Director of Facility to ensure their safe working condition.
- Follows and complies with school IPM program.
- Maintains Material Safety Data Sheets on all chemicals and submits sheets to the school office and Director of Facility.
- Complies with OSHAs standards 29 CFR-1910, Occupational Safety and Health Standards.
- Checks email daily for important communications from SAU & Facilities Depts.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities
- Must comply with all SAU 70 District policy and building / department rules, procedures, practices and objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- A high school degree or a GED or five (5) years experience is the minimum requirement for the position.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as district policy manuals, SDS information sheets, and other manuals for equipment used for maintaining the school and the grounds.
- Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately with colleagues, custodial foreman, staff, students and community members.
- Ability to use email and internet-based programs for time cards.
- Ability to use such tools on the job that require reading and recording measurements.
- Ability to perform in a collaborative work environment.
- Mechanically literate.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to do physical labor.
- Lifting may be involved and the custodian should be able to lift a minimum of fifty pounds unassisted.
- The custodian should use discretion when completing all physical tasks to use support and/or other mechanical tools to aid in the completion of a task.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distant vision.
- Occasionally, yet essential to the position, the individual must meet deadlines with regard to maintaining his/her area of the building.
- Occasionally the position requires the employee to work irregular or extended hours and meet demands from the school system.
