ORGANIZATION

“Helping students reach new heights.” School-Based Behavior Consultation focuses on skill development & challenging behavior reduction for student success! SBBC provides ABA therapy & behavior support interventions in-school & in-home to improve social skills, academics, vocational skills, functional skills, & communication. This is accomplished through the use of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) & in collaboration with other specialists, school staff, the students we serve, & caregivers.

SBBC is student-oriented. Through the use of behavior-analytic methods, we place highest priority on equipping & empowering students to reach new heights in each setting they encounter!

Mission: We are a team of professionals and experts in Applied Behavior Analysis who partner with & equip individuals with autism spectrum disorder, caregivers, community support staff, and/or school team members to gain the skills needed to reach their full potential.

Vision: We envision individuals with autism spectrum disorder throughout East Central Indiana gaining access to more inclusive settings and having greater autonomy in life, as a result of SBBC’s service provision.


POSITION OVERVIEW

The Instructional Assistant performs a variety of instructional and/or support duties to assist with instruction, supervision, and education of students with special needs (medical and/or disability) in regular education classroom settings (inclusion), one-on-one, as well as Resource Room pullout.


COMPENSATION

  • $14-$17 per hour

  • Includes the following benefits for full-time employees:

    • Major medical, vision, and dental, supplemental insurance, unemployment insurance, workman’s compensation, and social security and medicare taxes

    • PTO accrued based on length of time with the company, starting at 5 hours per 150 worked and increasing annually

    • Five paid holidays per year

    • Retirement - 100% match on the first 3% of compensation



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Works collaboratively by assisting teachers and specialists in assessment, academic and instructional support, student interactions, enforcing safe behaviors, and enhancing social growth of learners.

  • May assist students with common daily tasks such as eating, dressing, toileting, to include diapering.

  • May participate in IEP planning and assessment meetings to provide direct input and recommendations on student progress and needs.

  • Provides direct assistance in such activities as: implementing lesson plans, preparing instructional support materials, working directly with students in small groups, providing individualized instructional and learning assistance, and other similar tasks.

  • When communicating with students, parents, community members and other staff members exercises discretion and assures protection of student confidentiality consistent with company policies.

  • Oversees student safety, by such activities as: playground supervision, hallway supervision, etc. Takes steps to intervene when students are not in control, not in the proper location, or may be in dangerous or unsafe situations on an as-needed basis.

  • Provides instructional support and tutoring to students in inclusion, pullout, and one-on-one sessions.

  • Documents progress of learners to assist in assessing progress with goals.

  • Performs clerical duties such as preparing instructional materials, making copies, operating office equipment, answering telephones, and record keeping.

  • May provide assistance in other special education and regular education settings as necessary and assigned. May provide assistance in student supervision.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Preferred - Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood education; or equivalent coursework in early childhood education with early education teaching experience

  • Preferred - Registered behavior technician certification


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of 1 years experience teaching in preschool or similar setting

  • Experience working with individuals with neurodiversities, such as autism spectrum disorder

  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity

  • Ability to communicate and cooperate with diverse families, various professionals and community groups.

  • Good interpersonal skills and a cooperative attitude

  • Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution skills

  • Working knowledge of Google applications (e.g Gmail, Sheets, Slide, Meet, etc)


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • CPR and CPI certification

  • Drug screen and criminal background check required for hire


DIRECT SUPERVISOR

The Instructional Assistant reports directly to the School Readiness Program Director.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Stand for periods of time, move around the work site, move from one work site to another, sit at a desk.


  • Stoop, kneel or crouch to assist students.

  • Occasionally lift and/or move materials up to fifty pounds.

  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders by talking and listening.

  • Operate a computer and other technology devices.

  • Read and analyze data (close visual acuity).
