Student Information Specialist

Position Summary
Must have the ability to work with different databases and student information systems used in a PK-12 environment.

Essential Functions
- Provides first-level support to the administration and all school-level personnel in the use of the student information management system.
- Serves as district point of contact for procedural, data, and training issues related to student information.
- Provides troubleshooting and technical support for the division student information database.
- Ensures that data is collected properly and ensures all legal or ethical standards are met.
- Performs maintenance activities, annual student database roll-over, and other database functions as requested.
- Organizes meetings and training relative to the student information database.
- Collects, analyzes, and disseminates information and reports with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Investigates new features to improve program navigation and operation.
- Provides support to teachers relative to the electronic grade book.
- Works closely with school registrars to ensure the accuracy of student data and assists with online registration as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications, Education and Experience
- An Associate's Degree in a related field and/or extensive prior experience.
- Excellent command of the English language (written and verbal).
Demonstrated ability to communicate technical issues with non-technical persons. - Extensive working knowledge of key computer components and operations, various operating system platforms, network environments, and the internet.
- Broad knowledge of student information systems.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Physical Requirements
- This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force.
- Work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires walking, speaking or hearing and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires standing, sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions
- Work requires close vision, distance vision, color perception and peripheral vision.
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
- Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
- Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.
- Work frequently requires exposure to the risk of electrical shock and occasionally requires working in high, precarious places and exposure to extreme heat (non-weather).
- Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
- Must be mobile enough for frequent traveling to and from schools and facilities inside and outside the school division.
Special Requirements
- Valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia for the operation of division-owned/leased motor vehicles may be required. The incumbent’s driving record will be subject to periodic review and must be acceptable in accordance with the provisions of the Dinwiddie County School Board’s policy manual.
