POSITION : Science Teacher

LOCATION : Central High School

REPORTS TO : Building Principal

START DATE : Upon Board Approval

JOB SUMMARY :

The successful candidate will be qualified and comfortable supporting students through the introduction and mastery of the content and skills in one or more science courses. Life Science / Biology license required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

• Bachelors of Secondary Education Degree
• Valid Teaching Certificate to teach in appropriate grade / subject

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Teaches District approved curriculum

2. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated

3. Deliver group and individual student instruction within established curriculum

4. Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students

5. Creates lesson plans

6. Experience with Skyward student management

7. Create a flexible program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth

8. Motivate students to develop skills attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continuing education

9. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior

10. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and—in harmony with the goals—establishes clear objectives for all lessons,

units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students

11. Diagnoses and assist with the learning disabilities of students

12. Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, prepares progress reports and daily lesson plans

13. Responds to a wide range of inquiries from students, parents, and guardians regarding the instructional program and student progress.

14. Collaborate with other teachers, administrators to address instructional and classroom issues.

15. Performs other related duties, as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school duties.

Working Conditions and Physical Environment

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; hear and understand speech at normal levels; physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds; to bend, to stoop, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to angry students / parents and neighborhoods considered to have high levels of violence potential.
