What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Security Officer position at School City of Hammond?
School Resource Officers
- Applicants must be active law enforcement officers and certified through the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy
- Officers will be armed
- Officers will be certified as School Resource Officers within 6 months employment
- Applicants will be working security at Morton HS, Hammond Central HS, Eggers MS, and/or Scott MS
- Officers will assist with disturbances or emergencies on school property during school days or special events involving students, staff, and general public
- Officers will assist staff with state mandated drills
- Officers will assist school administrators and staff members with overall safety concerns or suspicious activities at the school
- Officers will assist with monitoring students and visitors that enter and leave the school
- Officers will assist with monitoring students in the cafeteria during lunch periods and with clearing hallways
- Officers will maintain a positive presence at all times.
- Officers will actively monitor and patrol the schools while on duty.
- Officers will work to develop positive relationships with students and staff.
- Officers acknowledge that while working for SCH, they report to the building administration and the District School Safety Specialist.
