Requirements
Education Level: High School Diploma or Equivalent. Associate’s degree in a related field is preferred or an experience and training is beneficial to meet the federal qualified employee requirement.
Certification: Any Paraeducator who has a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from an accredited college will have an additional $1.00 added to their base pay.
Any Paraeducator who has a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college will have an additional $0.50 added to their base pay.
Any Paraeducator who has an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college will have an additional $0.25 added to their base pay.
Official transcripts must be sent, reviewed, and approved from the Central Office before additional amounts are added to the base pay.
Essential Functions: The essential functions of the paraeducator position include:
- Regular, dependable in person attendance on the job.
- The ability to perform the identified tasks and performance responsibilities which are effective teaching and communication skills.

Special Education Paraprofessional Level
Performance Responsibilities for Level III positions: Special Education and Early Childhood Paraprofessional
- Provide additional support to students with special needs in the general classroom and/or other environments in a manner that helps the student access learning opportunities.
- Follows the individualized programming model designed by the special education teacher, speech pathologist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, or other special education instructor.
- Provide the necessary accommodations as directed by the special education teacher, speech pathologist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, or other special education instructor.
- Provide support and supervision to students with special needs who need additional support when using the restroom and/or grooming needs.
Performance Responsibilities for Level III positions
- Provide assistance to students with special needs, non-English-speaking students, students with physical and mental disabilities, or other students as assigned.
- Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
- Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, playgrounds, and gymnasiums, or on field trips.
- Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
- Observe students’ performance and record relevant data to assess progress.
- Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
- Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods.
- Use computers, audio-visual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees, as required.
- Carry out therapeutic regimens such as behavior modification and personal development programs, under the supervision of special education teachers, psychologists, speech-language pathologists or other professionals.
- Provide disabled students with assistive devices, supportive technology, and assistance accessing facilities such as restrooms.
- Assist in bus loading and unloading.
- Maintain computers in classrooms and laboratories and assist students with hardware and software use.
- Serve as a role model to all students.
- Serve as a positive member of the community in a way that does not negatively affect the District’s reputation or image in the community.
- Refrain from engaging in conduct that interferes with the operations of the District, including the education of students.
- Develop and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with other staff and administration.
- Adhere to all District policies, rules, regulations, and supervisory directives.
- Maintain confidentiality of information concerning staff, students, and parents in accordance with law and District rules.
- Adhere to the code of ethics of the District and the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE Rule 27).
- Other duties that may be assigned by the building principal.
