What are the responsibilities and job description for the Groundskeeper - Lead position at School District 27J?
SUMMARY: Manage and coordinate all personnel, tasks and provide work direction and training for full-time and seasonal employees. Provide coordination, and assistance in facilities repair, turf maintenance, horticulture/tree and shrub care, mandatory backflow, playground repair, playground safety inspections. This position will also be responsible for maintenance of open space and non-developed properties through the district.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Direct and assist employees in assigned tasks. Determine staffing, equipment, and materials necessary to perform routine and special maintenance and construction projects.
- Perform and assist in all areas of turf maintenance such as mowing, irrigation management and repairs, fertilization, aeration, top-dress/over-seed, sod, etc.
- Prepare and maintain athletic fields and tracks. Perform duties such as watering, rolling, painting, and placing lines. Maintain turf including but not limited to laying sod, fertilizing, application of herbicides, pesticides, and cutting of weeds.
- Perform landscape maintenance, including planting trees, annuals, perennials, and shrubs; trimming and removing trees and shrubs. Filling landscape beds with rock/mulch and spring/fall cleanups. Attend construction meetings and provide site specific information of district grounds and assist with facilitating landscape installations and maintenance tasks on district property. Demonstrate the ability to coordinate, layout, construct, schedule and prepare athletic fields for events.
- Perform playground safety inspections, maintenance, and repairs. Add additional landscape material as needed. Install new playground equipment and perform welding and other repair functions on equipment as required.
- Maintain parking lots and sidewalks, including sweeping, pothole repair, grinding lips, and painting lines. Repair, replace, and seal asphalt in parking lots and play areas.
- Move, dismantle, and set up as necessary various items and equipment, including chairs, bleachers, tables, cabinets, trunks, etc. Support HVAC techs in changing HVAC filters. Making deliveries for the Facilities department to schools.
- Perform inspection of roofs and assist with repairs.
- Manage, monitor and complete work orders for assigned group.
- Communicate with supervisor on a daily basis and provide input for evaluations.
- Schedule equipment repair as needed. Safely transport and operate a variety of small and heavy equipment.
- Complete snow removal and ice mitigation as needed (seasonal) to ensure safe egress to and from buildings. Remove snow from district parking areas, play pads, and sidewalks, using trucks, shovels, and other snow removal equipment.
- Respond as essential personnel in case of an emergency, weather or environmental events, and school/facility/district closure.
- Perform other duties as assigned and carry and answer the on-call phone when scheduled for the on-call rotation.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED plus five years of experience required (equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable)
- Prior supervisory experience in athletic turf and landscape maintenance preferred.
- A minimum of two years of experience in grounds and turf maintenance, pesticide application, and irrigation maintenance and repair.
- Valid Colorado driver’s license. Must meet District driver insurability requirements.
- Must be able to pass a post offer, pre-employment physical.
- Must be able to pass a Colorado and Federal Bureau of Investigation background check.
