DESCRIPTION: Provides supervision, direction, and leadership, coaching, and mentoring of bus drivers. Provides classroom instruction and behind the wheel training for all new applicants. On an ongoing day to day basis, provide a direct comprehensive safety and training program for all CDE/Small vehicle drivers. Maintain required documents for audit and compliance with state certifications, district/state/federal requirements. Resolve student, parent and community concerns related to safe and efficient student transportation in collaboration with the Transportation Manager and the Director of Transportation while maintaining confidentiality at all times.
SALARY: Supervisory/Professional Pay Range 1, starting at $59,636.00 per year, depending on recent relevant experience. 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday, 12 months per year. Eligible for benefits.

Duties And Responsibilities
- Conducts classroom and behind the wheel bus driver training for the purpose of presenting, reinforcing, and/or developing bus driver skills, mandated by state, federal and Colorado Department of Education rules and regulations.
- Evaluates performance of bus drivers and driver applicants for the purpose of ensuring that basic skills levels are met and are in compliance with state certification requirements. Informs bus drivers and driver applicant (e.g. rules, regulations, laws procedures, etc.) for the purpose of providing information, requesting follow-up action and/or implementing procedures.
- Maintain manual and electronic documents, files and records for the purpose of documenting activities and/or providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail.
- Monitor and conduct school bus emergency evacuation drills. Oversees bus driver licensing, training requirements, and certificate status for the purpose of ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Participates in meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
- Prepares a variety of documents and reports (e.g. training handouts, safety information, guidelines, driver evaluations, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or training materials to bus drivers, other district personnel and outside agencies as required by established policies and/or regulatory guidelines.
- Schedules training and testing for the purpose of ensuring compliance with district policies and established regulatory requirements. Emergency procedures, mountain and adverse weather training included.
- Supervises all bus drivers (e.g. employee concerns/problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, employee performance appraisals, etc.) for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth and ensuring department’s work goal are achieved in collaboration with the Transportation Safety and Training Manager and the Director of Transportation.
- Perform duties as a Bus Driver as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Specialized courses required to receive state certification as a Driver Trainer (DT Courses, a minimum of 3 years training provided by CDE) for school bus drivers.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
- Must be able to pass a post offer, pre-employment physical, including DOT requirements.
- Must be able to pass a Colorado and Federal Bureau of Investigation background check.
- Over three years of related experience in pupil transportation and school bus operations as a Driver/Trainer/Team Leader.
- A minimum of three years’ experience in Transportation safety and training.
- Experience with and knowledge of bus driving, student management, fleet maintenance and special needs equipment.
- Knowledge of Colorado Department of Education (CDE), Department of Transportation (DOT)Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) regulations.
- Conflict resolution skills, personal computer and keyboarding skills, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
- Must be twenty-one years of age.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain commercial license (CDL) “B” with P2-S endorsement.
- First Aid and CPR certifications and CDE certification as a Driver Trainer for school bus drivers required (DT1-3).
