Position Overview
The Head Varsity Girls Soccer Coach is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and management of the varsity girls soccer program. This individual will lead the team in fostering a competitive, positive, and supportive environment that emphasizes player development, sportsmanship, and academic success. The coach will serve as a leader and role model while ensuring compliance with school, league, and state athletic policies.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching and Player Development
- Develop and implement a comprehensive training program to improve players’ technical, tactical, physical, and mental skills.
- Plan and conduct all practices, ensuring a focus on player safety and performance improvement.
- Prepare game strategies, formations, and lineups to compete effectively.
- Mentor student-athletes to reach their full potential, both on and off the field.
Team Leadership
- Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that promotes sportsmanship, teamwork, and accountability.
- Set clear expectations for behavior, effort, and commitment.
- Actively monitor and support players’ academic performance to ensure eligibility.
Program Management
- Coordinate team tryouts, establish the varsity roster, and assist in the development of JV/feeder programs (if applicable).
- Collaborate with our strength & conditioning coach to lead the team in workout sessions twice a week.
- Maintain open communication with players, parents, assistant coaches, and school administration.
- Collaborate with the Athletic Director to schedule games, tournaments, and practice times.
- Manage and maintain team equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
Administrative Duties
- Attend all required meetings, including coaches’ meetings and school events.
- Adhere to school policies, league regulations, and state athletic association rules (e.g., NFHS, CIF, UIL).
- Submit required documentation, including team rosters, schedules, and game reports, in a timely manner.
- Coordinate transportation and logistics for away games and tournaments.
Community Engagement
- Represent the program positively within the school and community.
- Promote the program through outreach efforts such as camps, clinics, and community events.
- Foster strong relationships with parents, alumni, and community members to support the team.
Working Conditions
- Practices and games will primarily occur outdoors, with occasional indoor activities as required.
- Physical activity, including demonstrating drills, standing for extended periods, and handling equipment, is required.
- Occasional exposure to varying weather conditions during the season.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Previous varsity or higher-level coaching experience (preferred).
- Background in soccer as a coach and/or player (high school or collegiate preferred).
- Bachelor’s degree in education, sports management, or a related field (preferred).
Skills and Certifications
- Leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage players, assistants, and administrative tasks.
- Knowledge of advanced soccer strategies, training techniques, and player development methods.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to inspire and motivate student-athletes.
- Current CPR, First Aid, and concussion training certifications.
- Valid coaching certification (e.g., USSF “D” License or higher, NFHS coaching certification - preferred).
Other Requirements
- Availability for evening practices, games, and weekend tournaments.
- Ability to travel with the team for away games and events.
