Description
The School District of La Crosse is accepting applications for a 1.0 FTE Adaptive Physical Education Teacher for the District, currently assigned to Spence and State Road Elementary Schools, and Longfellow Middle School, beginning in the 2025-2026 school year. Projected start date: August 12, 2025
Wisconsin certification 1860 - Adaptive PE is required. Multiple certifications are preferred.

Prefer applicants possessing the following qualifications:
- Knowledge of current practices and methodologies (i.e., life-long fitness/wellness activities) in teaching Specially Designed Physical Education.
- Knowledge of and ability to teach students with special needs.
- Knowledge of Wisconsin Model Standards and NASPE for Physical Education.
- Ability to correctly lift and reposition students (who may weigh up to 125 pounds or more) is required.
- Prefer candidates possessing a master’s degree and experience working with special education children ages 3 through 21.
- Ability to utilize computers.
Position responsibilities:
- Develop appropriate physical education plans for all areas of special education.
- Develop and plan instructional activities, lesson plans, and/or individual educational plans.
- Implement plans through direct service, consultation, and/or monitoring.
- Monitor student performance and behavior and takes appropriate action.
- Conduct evaluations for students referred for possible SDPE needs.
- Participate in parent/teacher conferences. Interpret student strengths, weaknesses, and/or problems a student may be experiencing in the classroom.
- Participate as a collaborative member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Collaborate with other staff in evaluating individual student problems, approaches to instructional units, and new teaching technologies or procedures available.
- Develop student tests and evaluates results.
- Determine student grades for instructional units.
- Nurture independent behavior of students.
- Maintain and provide accurate records as required.
- Participate in curriculum review, staff development and/or training, and keep abreast of information in the field of education.
- Implement Physical Fitness Assessment program.
- Coach in after-school adaptive sports league.
- Ability or interest in coaching one or more co-curricular activities.
- Complete additional tasks as required by administrators.
- Successful completion of a mandatory Job Specific Screen is required before employment.
