JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB GOAL:
To develop, monitor and participate in a successful prevention and injury treatment program in a cost effective manner that supports the goals of the District. This position will supervise the athletic training services for athletes in high school athletics, student athletic trainers and athletic training room activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or higher.
- Valid National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) certification.
- Valid Florida Athletic Trainers License.
- Valid CPR / First Aid certification. PREFERRED
- Master’s degree or higher.
- Experience with industry standard computer programs.
- Valid Florida temporary or professional teacher certification.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge and understanding of SDMC and FHSAA policy.
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and athletic training practices.
- Ability to comply with all state, federal and HIPPA regulations.
- Ability to develop and maintain a student trainer program.
- Working knowledge of record keeping and budgeting.
- Ability to enforce health and safety regulations governing athletic competition.
- Ability to demonstrate effective supervisory techniques.
- Possess effective communication skills both oral and written.
- Ability to administer CPR, utilize an AED and other emergency procedures.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and some holidays.
REPORTS TO:
Principal, Athletic Director
SUPERVISES:
Athletic Trainer supervises student athletic trainers.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate sports medicine services for the entire school athletic program.
- Attend all athletic events as sport calendars permits with the extension of the student trainers where appropriate.
- Serve as a liaison between the athlete and his / her parents, the coach and the consulting physician in matters relative to prevention, care and management of athletic injuries.
- Refer athletic injuries to physicians for diagnosis and treatment.
- Maintain health records on student athletes including and not limited to; daily injury records, treatment records, physician referrals and release records.
- Train and supervise student athletic trainers for athletic contest and practices.
- Works with the school staff and coaches to coordinate a sports physical program for all sports and genders.
- Complete all accident forms regarding student athletic injuries.
- Completes and files appropriate insurance forms and documentation in an appropriate time.
- Plan, develop and maintain an athletic training room in conjunction with the Athletic Director that meets the needs of the student athletes.
- Assist with athletic budget recommendations and purchase of supplies and equipment for the training room with the Athletic Director’s approval.
- Coordinate with coaches and school administration to develop and follow policies and procedures for athletic training room uses.
- Assist visiting teams with medical support as needed / requested.
- Advise coaches, staff, parents and athletes in regard to nutrition and other health needs of the athlete.
- Coordinate and advise coaches on necessary water breaks and rest periods in times of hot / humid weather.
- Monitor, in conjunction with coaches, athletes for over-fatigue, excessive weight loss.
- Coordinate first responder equipment including AED availability.
- Maintain record in regard to and implement the District’s concussion policy including ImPact testing.
- Provide coordination of practice activities of injured athletes unable to participate or who are restricted in practice.
- Advise coaching staff when an athlete may participate following an injury or illness.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the athletic director.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light Work: Exerting up to 45 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
