JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB GOAL:
To provide leadership and skilled work at a journeyman level in the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical service panels and systems, electronic direct digital controls systems and pneumatic controls systems.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduation from an accredited high school or trade school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in electrical, electronic, or mechanical trade. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
- Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the electrical, electronic and mechanical trades, methods, procedures and techniques. Knowledge of basic air conditioning/heating systems and pneumatic and electric controls. Knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and tools commonly utilized in the repair and service of air conditioning/heating equipment. Knowledge of the standards and codes, methods, tools and materials of the trade. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions required for the Controls trade. Ability to understand and listen to situations and develop plans for resolution that are consistent with School Board Policy. Ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, wiring diagrams, specifications and operating manuals. Ability to locate and adjust defects in electrical, pneumatic and electronic systems. Ability to transpose field data into PC based preventive maintenance program. Ability to estimate time and materials for jobs. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and the safety precautions of the trade. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to plan and prioritize work and assign duties. Ability to communicate work plans, verbally and in writing, to superiors and subordinates, and respond to questions from management. Ability to make decisions in emergency situations and inform supervisory staff of status of work being accomplished. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to communicate in terms understandable by trade groups as well as administrative/managerial personnel. Ability to apply math concepts such as fractions, percents, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform journeyman level duties in installation, repair, alteration and maintenance of electrical service panels and systems, pneumatic and electronic direct digital controls systems.
- Plan and prioritize work and assign duties.
- Work independently and review upon completion for compliance with instructions, established standards, and electrical codes.
- Estimate time and materials for jobs.
- Locate and adjust defects in electrical, pneumatic and electronic systems.
- Communicate to manager any information needed to obtain outside services for repairs.
- Schedule and perform preventive maintenance tasks in coordination with classroom and other programs in the school or facility.
- Keep manager informed on progress of preventive maintenance tasks.
- Work closely with school staff to identify concerns and address them in a timely and professional manner.
- Lead other Controls personnel in the performance of their duties with their health and safety in mind.
- Provide proper equipment, and monitors its use in the field.
- Maintain work schedules to allow for the needs of the District to be met.
- Maintain accurate records of daily work and time and payroll information.
- Follow safety standards in performing work and report unsafe conditions to Manager/Supervisor in a timely manner.
- May be required to return to work when major problems with HVAC equipment is encountered on off-shift or weekend times.
- Travel outside of Manatee County as required in the performance of duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The employee is exposed to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The employee frequently will work irregular or extended work hours while performing the duties of this job. The employee regularly is required to lift, hold, carry, sit, stand, walk, climb crawl, bend, stoop, apply finger dexterity, grasp, feel, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear, and rely on visual acuity. The noise level in the work environment can be high at times. Safety is the highest priority.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
