What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Paraprofessional (High School) position at School District of New Richmond?
Job Goal: To provide support to special education students at the direction of the special education teacher to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
Building Principal, Director of Student Services, and Supervising Teacher.
- Assist identified students with academic, functional, social and behavioral needs as identified by the students individual education plan and the case manager.
- Perform necessary data collection as directed by the special education teacher.
- Create educational materials as directed by the special education teacher.
- Provide input on the students current level of functioning, progress on IEP goals or other areas.
- Complete necessary reports and documentation for SBS billing for eligible students.
- Demonstrate care and sensitivity to individual, physical, academic and emotional needs of students.
- Provide support to students in a variety of settings, including the general education classroom, special education rooms, hallways, recess areas and school bus.
- Perform all other job related duties as assigned by Director of Student Services, Building Principal or designee for the benefit of the district.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma, associates degree preferred.
- Knowledge of student information systems Skyward, Microsoft Office, and Google.
- Training, experience and interest in supporting children and youth with disabilities.
- Hold or be eligible for DPI’s Special Education Program Aide License.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to interact positively with children and youth and support their academic, social, behavioral and functional needs.
- Ability to follow directions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Establish and maintain effective working relations with all stakeholders.
- Professional, pleasant and cordial demeanor.
- Additional qualifications or training may be required based on position need, including:
- Using medical equipment.
- Non-verbal communication.

Physical Requirements:
This work regularly requires sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing and occasionally requires pushing, pulling, lifting, and operating machines; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, and observing general surroundings and activities; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. school offices/classrooms/passageways).
