TITLE: ASSISTANT – FOOD SERVICE I

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum eighth grade education.
2. Knowledge of sanitation and safety requirements in a quantity food service operation.
3. Ability to follow directions, read and communicate in English.
4. Ability to effectively communicate with students, teachers, school administrators and other food service related personnel.
5. Completion of new employee workshop with thirty (30) days of hire.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions:
1. Performs kitchen duties as outlined on the work schedule which includes, but is not limited to, food production, dish machine operation, cashiering, backup and cleanup.
2. Assists in the successful operation of school food service programs which meet the needs of the school in a manner that results in high customer satisfaction.
3. Assists with orders, proper storage and inventories for all supplies and food stocks received.
4. Assists the manager in planning and monitoring the food production, and ensures that meal service is safe and that good quality food is served in proper quantities at the appropriate time.
5. Builds positive relationships with school administrators, faculty, staff, parents and students; actively promotes and markets school food service programs.
6. Assists the manager in adherence to all safety, sanitation, and hazard analysis and critical control point (HACCP) procedures.
7. Prepares reports concerning daily food amounts used and other reports as assigned.
8. Prepares food amounts in accordance with the production record.
9. Follows standardized recipes.
10. Assists with the operation of a satellite program as assigned.
11. Complies with all cash control and accountability procedures.
12. Follows all regulations, policies, and procedures relating to safety, sanitation, HACCP, personal hygiene and equipment use and care.
13. Assists the cafeteria manager with any audit requests.
14. Participates in annual/ongoing training and education initiatives related to the position’s food service role as promulgated by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service and evolving department standards.
Performance Effectiveness Criteria:
In addition to the employee being responsible for each of the performance responsibilities listed herein, annual progress will be assessed with respect to support and achievement of the District Strategic Plan and associated applicable scorecards.

Physical Abilities:
Effective October 5, 2015, all persons new, rehired or transferred to this job classification must successfully complete the Physical Demands Testing requirement. Persons must be capable of frequently lifting/ carrying/ pushing/ pulling up to 20 lbs; occasionally up to 42 lbs; medium physical activity required. Occasionally is defined as up to 33% of the workday.
