Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Helps students by instructing project-based classes in the area of automotive, woodworking, electronics, robotics, and engineering. Instruction includes whole group, team, and independent class work. The Industrial Technology Teacher informs students of career options in these fields and works to build students connections to post-secondary opportunities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaches skills and knowledge in one or more courses in the areas of Industrial Technology, with an emphasis on wood working, utilizing curriculum adopted by the Board of Education.
  • Develops lesson plan and organizes class time so that preparation, instruction, shop work, and clean-up activities can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  • Demonstrates industrial materials, equipment, tools, and processes, using standard or teacher-prepared models, mock-up, sketches, and other instructional aids.
  • Maintains a safe Industrial Technology classroom/lab, responsible for tools and equipment, the inventory, and the requisitioning of supplies.
  • Provides individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Evaluates and selects books, equipment, and instructional aids and supplies and maintains required inventory records.
  • Obtains and uses evaluative findings to determine program effectiveness and to ensure program renewal is continuous and responds to student’s needs.
  • Participates in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
  • Attends staff meetings as well as serves on staff and district committees as requested.
  • Participates in various meetings (e.g., parent conferences, site meetings, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information.
  • Works cooperatively with Special Education teachers to modify curriculum as needed for special education students according to Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities/areas as assigned.
  • Uses data to make informed decisions about students regarding behavior and academics.
  • Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, keeps appropriate records including attendance reports, and other records, as necessary.
  • Collaborates with other department staff to develop lesson plans, teaching strategies and interventions.
  • Creates an environment conducive to learning and that is appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Interacts in a positive, constructive manner with students, families, teaching assistants and other professionals.
  • Models the district Vision of “all means all” and demonstrates a willingness to become an active contributor to the school culture and our continual school improvement process.
  • Demonstrates knowledge around state standards, PBIS, restorative practices, technology to support students, and professionalism.
  • Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings, other professional activities as required by the district, and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the WI Educator Standards, district teaching expectations and delivery of the WI content standards for Industrial Technology, and federal or state laws pertaining to students.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by Administration.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid License in Technology Education (1220) from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working as a Technology Education Teacher in a School setting.
  • Experience working in introductory woodworking.
