What are the responsibilities and job description for the Educational Assistant - English Learner/Bilingual position at School District of Waupaca?
The School District of Waupaca is searching for a full time Bilingual Educational Assistant for a position available throughout the District. The Bilingual Educational Assistant reports to assigned English Learner (EL) Coach and works closely with English learner students on a regular basis in an effort to facilitate their language development in order to gain the full benefits from the District’s education program.
Throughout each day, a Bilingual Educational Assistant will perform the following:
Student Identification:
* Assist with referrals to other professional staff members in the District;
* Assist in the identification of students’ needs;
* Monitor students’ standardized testing achievement.
Communication (under the direction of the EL Coach or building administrator):
* Serve as liaison between parents, students, and staff for students identified as English Learner (EL) students;
* Communicate with students, parents, counselors, and other school staff (as necessary) on student’s needs and progress;
* Participate on district teams and professional development activities related to this position.
Classroom:
* Provide direct support for EL students with the most significant needs and indirect support for EL students with moderate needs;
* Adapt instructional material as necessary to meet student needs, aptitudes, and interests;
* Help teachers implement new instructional ideas and strategies;
* Encourage students in establishing high standards of conduct (the Waupaca Way);
* Establish an effective climate for learning;
* Flexibility to attend approved community events outside of school hours;
* Perform other tasks and assumes other responsibilities within the overall scope of the position which the supervisor may assign.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1) High School Diploma
2) Bilingual Spanish skills in reading, writing, and speaking
3) Experience working with children
4) Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
