Function / Position Summary
To build strong relationships and provide high quality, culturally relevant educational experiences during the summer for students who will be attending middle school during the upcoming school year. The teacher is responsible for creating a safe, intellectually challenging learning environment in which each student is actively engaged in meaningful activities. The teacher uses knowledge of adolescent development and knowledge of the content area in educating a diverse student population. In addition, the teacher models learning as a life-long process by collaborating with students, parents, colleagues, and community.

Program location: Abbott, Canton, Eastview, Ellis, Kenyon Woods, Kimball, Larsen, or Tefft Middle School
The following schools will have Middle School Experience of Freshman Connection on July 29-30: AMS, CMS, EMS, EVMS, KWMS, TMS, BHS, LHS, SEHS and SHS.
One day of professional development is required for all summer experiences. This will occur on July 27, 2025. HHMS, KMS and LMS will host MSE on August 7-8.
Summer staff is expected to be at school 15 minutes prior to the school day and 15 minutes after the school day concludes.
Staff hours: 7:45 am - 12:15 pm
Student school day: 8:00 am - 12:00 pm

Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Plans a program of study that follows district guidelines, and meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Implements researched-based teaching strategies that engage all students, acknowledging a range of abilities of students and cultural backgrounds.
- Creates an environment conducive to learning and motivates students, acknowledging a range of abilities of students and cultural backgrounds.
- Implements current district curriculum and content that is grade level appropriate.
- Plans for and guides the learning process toward the mastery of curriculum goals, and establishes clear objectives/targets for all lessons, units and projects that are clearly communicated to students.
- Collaborates with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis, and as requested by the administration.
- Implements assessments of student progress and communicates progress to students and parents.
- Sets high expectations for student achievement and behavior and motivates students to work to their highest potential.
- Participates on curriculum, personnel, policy or professional development committees related to the educational program.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy.
- Assists administration in implementing student discipline policies and maintains order in area(s) assigned and/or supervised in a fair and just manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the principal, or other administrative staff.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related subject from a regionally accredited university.
- Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with any type of teaching endorsement, School Counselor, Librarian (Library Info Specialist or Media), or School Social Worker endorsement required.
- Teaching experience is preferred but not necessary for hiring.
- Must demonstrate knowledge of Common Core State Standards and Social Emotional Learning Standards.
- Must exhibit willingness and capacity to use all forms of current instructional technology.
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push objects or materials up to 30 lbs. with proper technique.

- Additional hours may also be required to provide a student/parent orientation component during an afternoon or evening on one of the following days: July 29 - July 30, 2025
