What are the responsibilities and job description for the Professor of the Practice of Cinematic Arts in Screenwriting position at School of Cinematic Arts?

The University of Southern California (USC), founded in 1880, is located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles and is the largest private employer in the City of Los Angeles.  As an employee of USC, you will be a part of a world-class research university and a member of the “Trojan Family,” which is comprised of the faculty, students, and staff that make the university what it is.  

The John Wells Division of Writing for Screen and Television within USC’s School of Cinematic Arts offers programs leading to a Screenwriting Minor, a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and a Master of Fine Arts degrees.  The primary goal of the Writing for Screen and Television Division is to produce quality storytellers by fostering individual voices and perspectives unique to the writer.  All writing intensive courses are workshop style with an emphasis on revision and collaboration.  

We are seeking a candidate, who is enthusiastic about teaching, for a Professor of Cinema Practice in writing the feature film. This is a full-time position on the non-tenure track. This position will require mentorship of faculty and students, curriculum advisement, and leadership in serving the administration of the Writing Division and the School of Cinematic Arts.  


Minimum Education:  

•    Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Fine Arts or Bachelor of Science from a four-year institution.  

Preferred Education: 

•    Master of Fine Arts or Master of Arts degree 
 

Minimum Experience:
•    The ideal candidate will have a strong record of writing feature films that have been produced, with at least ten years of experience in screenwriting and script development.
 •    At least five years fundamentals and feature screenwriting teaching experience in both undergraduate and graduate programs, with a directed focus on rewriting and adaptation.
 •    At least five years demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others and assume leadership roles on academic committees/task forces/research groups as well as the equivalent thereof in a professional context.

Preferred Experience: 
•    At least ten years of fundamentals and feature screenwriting teaching experience in both undergraduate and graduate programs, with a directed focus on rewriting and adaptation.

The core salary range for this position is $90,000 to $100,000 per year. This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure/tenure track position.
