REPORTS TO: Director of Operations for Printmaking and the Printshop Manager

SCHEDULE: Part-time, onsite position, 25 hours per week, 3 weekly shifts.

COMPENSATION (SALARY RANGE): $21.00/hour, Non-Exempt, Part-Time

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Operations and Printshop Manager, the Printshop Assistant supports the smooth operation of the Printshop by assisting students and faculty, providing technical support and training, and maintaining safety standards. This in-person, onsite role includes supervising daily activities in the Printshop, ensuring safety measures are followed, and offering technical expertise to students, faculty, and staff.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Supervise Printshop activities, answer student and faculty questions, and ensure safe work habits.
  • Assisting Printmaking faculty with class demonstrations, procedural introductions, and equipment use.
  • Help students translate digital and hand-drawn images into color separations for use with various printmaking techniques.
  • Offer technical guidance to students working independently in the Printshop, ensuring safe handling and mixing of acids and overseeing student use.
  • Open and close the Printshop, including equipment checks and supply monitoring; ensure that all fans and machinery are off/on, and classrooms are locked at the end of the day.
  • Perform inventory management by restocking supplies and maintaining accurate records.
  • Manage equipment by performing minor adjustments, routine maintenance, and tool distribution.
  • Record plate sales, conducting credit card transactions, and answering telephone inquiries.
  • Assist with deliveries, stocking materials, and occasionally lifting supplies and boxes as required.
  • Participate in OSHA training and maintain compliance with safety protocols, including MSDS documentation.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree
  • At least two years of experience working with multiple techniques in printmaking.
  • Must be well-versed in a wide range of printmaking techniques, including silkscreen, lithography, etching, relief printing, letterpress, platemaking processes, and digital separation techniques.
  • Expertise in digital design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

  • Ability to interact with all levels of administrative staff, faculty, students, visitors, and prospective students.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

  • This is a fully onsite position, requiring in-person attendance at our designated work location. Remote work is not permitted for this role.
  • Fine Arts Printmaking Studio’s operational hours are 9:00 to 9:30 PM daily.
  • Printshop Assistant shifts are:
    • Mornings, 8:30 - 5:00 PM; or
    • Afternoons, 1:00 - 9:00 PM
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, such as standing for long periods of time, walking, lifting, and carrying items up to 20 lbs.
  • Exposure to large equipment, requiring adherence to safety protocols.
