Job Overview – School-Based Occupational Therapist
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Occupational Therapist to join our school-based team for the upcoming academic year. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pediatric care and experience working with students with diverse needs and disabilities. This role focuses on supporting students' access to education by helping them develop or regain the functional skills needed to succeed in a school environment.
As a School-Based OT, you will collaborate with educators, special education staff, and families to create and implement individualized support strategies that promote independence in academic, social, and daily living tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate students to identify occupational therapy needs as they relate to educational performance.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
- Provide direct and consultative occupational therapy services to students in a variety of educational settings (e.g., classrooms, therapy rooms, integrated settings).
- Support the development of fine motor, sensory processing, self-regulation, and daily living skills.
- Educate and collaborate with teachers, paraprofessionals, and families to ensure consistent strategies across school and home.
- Maintained thorough documentation of evaluations, therapy sessions, progress reports, and IEP goals.
- Participate in IEP meetings and provide clear, student-centered recommendations.
- Remain up-to-date with best practices and relevant school-based occupational therapy strategies.
Qualifications
- Master’s or Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
- Current Illinois state licensure (or eligibility) as an Occupational Therapist.
- Prior experience working with school-aged children or in an educational setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with IEPs, school documentation systems, and educational team collaboration.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Compassionate, student-centered, and flexible in working with diverse learners.
