Salary: $37.03 - $51.85 Hourly (based on experience)
Job Description: We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Adapted Physical Education (APE) Teacher to join our team in Illinois. In this role, you will develop and implement specialized physical education programs for students with diverse physical, cognitive, and emotional needs. As an APE teacher, you will play a vital role in fostering physical development, self-confidence, and social interaction in an inclusive and supportive environment.
Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver individualized physical education programs that meet the unique needs of each student.
- Adapt lesson plans and activities to ensure all students can participate safely and effectively.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and therapists to create integrated learning experiences.
- Assess and document student progress toward physical education and developmental goals.
- Provide input for Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and participate in IEP meetings.
- Utilize equipment, technology, and techniques that support adaptive learning.
- Create a positive, inclusive environment that encourages participation and engagement from all students.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or a related field (required).
- Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an Adapted Physical Education Endorsement (required).
- Prior experience teaching physical education, particularly in special education or adaptive settings (preferred).
- Strong understanding of disabilities and the ability to modify activities to meet varying student needs.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- CPR and First Aid certification (preferred).
