Job Description

We are hiring a skilled and compassionate Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher to join our team in Illinois. The ideal candidate will provide specialized instruction for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, ensuring each student achieves their academic and personal potential. This role involves developing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), collaborating with families and educators, and implementing inclusive teaching strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver engaging lessons tailored to meet the needs of students with hearing loss.
  • Develop and implement IEPs in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Use ASL, Total Communication, or other appropriate systems to support student learning.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and support staff to create an inclusive learning environment.
  • Incorporate assistive technology, auditory training equipment, and other resources to enhance instruction.
  • Assess student progress regularly and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Build strong partnerships with families to support students' growth and educational success.
  • Maintain accurate records, including progress reports and IEP documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or related field.
  • Current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) endorsement.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or commitment to attaining proficiency.
  • Experience developing and executing IEPs in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Familiarity with assistive technologies used in the field of Deaf Education.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Passionate about fostering an inclusive learning environment for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 years of experience in a DHH teaching role or working with Deaf/Hard of Hearing students.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices for teaching students with hearing loss.
  • Experience working in an educational setting that integrates ASL and spoken language.
