CFISD Resident Host Teacher Job Description
Summary
The CFISD Resident Host Teacher (HT) serves as an experienced and trusted advisor who models and executes effective instruction and professional dispositions. The HT creates a supportive classroom environment through effective communication where a Teacher Resident (TR) is encouraged to take risks. The HT observes and provides specific feedback to the TR to have a lasting impact on student achievement, including helping the TR fulfill potential for intellectual growth. The HT is an effective campus leader, provides support, and is committed to the success of their TR.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and at least 3 years of evidence of modeling exemplary teaching experience with skilled ratings or above
- Valid teaching certificate with required certification in the subject and level assigned and competency in the academic subject area; HT certification must match the certification subject the TR is seeking
- Prior evidence of high-progress student outcomes in the subject area (evidence of student growth; student data)
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Must be self-motivated, able to work under pressure, effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks, able to resolve problems, and work collaboratively and productively
- Create a purposeful and structured classroom environment for both the students and TR
- Desire and willingness to co-plan and co-teach daily
- Commitment to attending professional learning seminars offered by the Site Coordinator (SC)/University
- Record of regular and reliable attendance
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain a professional relationship, including open communication, with the TR
- Establish and maintain a consistent planning schedule with the TR
- Provide TR with all lesson materials and access to technology in advance, assist in planning a lesson cycle, and review and rehearse TR’s planned lessons
- Clearly communicate campus and district expectations
- Regularly model and execute effective instructional practices for TR
- Establish co-planning responsibilities with the TR and support their understanding of core content areas, TEKS, and curriculum guides
- Co-plan, co-teach, debrief, problem-solve, and coach TR daily
- Support TR in leading small-group and whole-group instruction
- Complete observations, provide specific and timely feedback and communicate regularly with the SC
- Monitor and support TR’s progress toward performance goals within a developmentally appropriate timeframe
- Complete formal monthly Domain 4 progress report of TR and submit reports to EPP’s online system by requested deadline
- Include TR in CFISD Professional Learning opportunities and campus-based professional development
- Participate in professional development and professional conversations led by the SC
- Keep developmental needs of the TR a priority when allocating non-instructional administrative duties to ensure ample time to develop teaching skills (classroom instruction should remain the focus of TR duties)
- Solicit and willingly receive feedback to improve coaching skills
Planning and Preparation
- Set high expectations of achievement that are ambitious and measurable for the TR. Set direction, verbally and with tools and materials, that clarify content and teaching process
- Lead, model, and coach TR to:
- Plan using the Understanding by Design model (plan with an end in mind) to align all lessons, activities, and assessments
- Design instruction that is enriched (developing higher-order thinking skills) and personalized (reflecting learning levels and interests of individual students)
- Reflect upon instruction and student outcomes daily
Classroom Environment
- Lead, model, and coach TR to:
- Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
- Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook
- Establish a culture of respect, enthusiasm, and rapport
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials
- Compile, maintain, analyze, and file all reports, records, data, and other documents required for student recordkeeping
Instruction
- Lead, model, and coach TR to:
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the district’s curriculum program requirements and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect the understanding of all learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations
- Work cooperatively with teachers of special populations to modify curriculum as needed for students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP) or ELPS
- Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods
- Monitor and analyze student assessment data to inform enriched instruction by teacher
Professional Responsibilities
- Engage in informal check-ins with the SC to share progress updates and align support for TR
- Model instructional tasks to aid TR
- Provide feedback and developmental advice to develop TR’s effectiveness
- Participate in CFISD Professional Learning opportunities to support the development of the TR
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings with TR
- Provide resources and information, initiate interactions, and give demonstrations and directions
- Collaborate, create, and share lesson plans with TR, exchange resources, and problem-solve with TR
- Provide learning-focused conversations that include inquiry, reflection, and generation of insights regarding professional practice
- Observe the TR and utilize CF-TESS appraisal process to provide feedback
