What are the responsibilities and job description for the Machine Operator position at SCHOTT North America, Inc.?
Must be willing to work any shift.
Responsible for the set-up, adjustment, operation of machinery and materials to machine cut, grind, lap, polish, and drill glass or similar materials to specified tolerances. Perform receiving and shipping functions and expedite the flow of production materials through the shop in order to meet the schedule of production orders. Assist in the machining and handling of sculptures.
- Glass identification and material handling
- Prepare, set-up, and tear down a variety of machines to cut, edge, saw, drill or grind glass or similar materials
- Adjust and operate machinery use to cut, edge, saw, drill, or grind glass or similar materials
- Inspection of product
- Proper recording of work performed
- Simultaneous operation of one or more machines and/or performance of other work assignments
- Perform preventative maintenance on machines
- Loading and unloading machines
- Accountability for inventory and location of all items shipped to and from Special Components department
- Must demonstrate physical and mental tenacity in the hand grinding and polishing of complicated forms
- Maintain accuracy, efficient work while upholding quality control
- Maintain orderliness and cleanliness within work areas
- Implement 5S plus safety principles within work areas
- Other duties as assigned
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three to five years related experience.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, customer drawings, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to all levels of management and employees.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, measurements, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Computer Skills:
Ability to use business systems and Microsoft Office Suite software proficiently. Ability to use basic computer operations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carryout instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Ability to use gauges to measure. Ability to be precise, organized, and review work. Ability to optimize materials. Ability to operate various machinery
