The Production Supervisor is a hands-on, fast paced leadership position responsible for directing the Leetsdale plant manufacturing operations. This includes directing and coordinating the efforts of the team leads and/or manufacturing employees to meet the planned production schedule consistent with quality, safety, cost requirements and lean manufacturing principles. This position requires the candidate to maintain a high level of communication between all departments to maintain a smooth workflow regardless of issues on the production floor. The ability to maintain trust, respect and credibility are necessary for this position.
Requirements
- Assign employees to jobs. Train, motivate, and evaluate performance of the team in all related responsibilities. Maintain discipline and recommend corrective action when necessary.
- Conduct daily floors meetings with each supervised area to ensure proper communication regarding daily objectives.
- Focus on upcoming production schedule with a keen focus on needed parts and assemblies to assure a smooth build process that is not hindered by roadblocks.
- Work directly with Materials Group Supervisor and Operations Manager to identify and resolve inventory and assembly issues to ensure proper on time delivery with the highest quality.
- Work directly with Manufacturing Engineers to develop and implement methods, processes and equipment to reduce cost of operation. Evaluate and provide justification for new equipment and facility revisions to improve manufacturing performance.
- Plan and schedule work among employees to meet departmental work schedules. Utilize equipment and materials to meet defined specifications and quality standards.
- Maintain on time delivery for production orders on the floor.
- Create routings with the help of Manufacturing Engineering for large system and other related builds.
- Manage the employee schedule including when overtime is needed to ensure adequate labor is available to meet production goals.
- Evaluate production efficiency on a month-to-month basis taking immediate action when necessary.
- Work hand in hand with Manufacturing Engineering by effectively communicating any changes to work instructions, assembly processes, 5S and Kaizen events, workflow changes and day to day issues that may occur.
- Work closely with customer service and production planning to assure shipment of expedited materials and finished products as well as the movement to and from various production areas. Coordinate with customer service on any special packaging or routing instructions issued by our customers.
- Manage production floor consumables by closely monitoring items and ordering when necessary.
- Create yearly capital budget for shop related items needed for the following year.
- Troubleshoot quantity discrepancies, assembly issues and goods movement errors with manufacturing, receiving, warehouse, shipping, and inspection personnel.
- Responsible for yearly reviews of all direct reports. (20-30 employees)
- Act as coordinator for environmental matters including the handling and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes in conjunction with state and federal regulations.
- Troubleshoot when required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

- A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business management, industrial management or a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of 5S and lean manufacturing principles is required.
- Experience working with SAP in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Experience in the fluid power industry is a plus.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to provide leadership to the production floor by maintaining a positive attitude and culture.
- Ability to interpret in written, oral, diagram documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and memos.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations to customer, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Certificates and Licenses
- Forklift certification to drive a forklift, including RAYMOND upright preferred for training production personnel.
Other Requirements
- Maintains confidentiality when working with company proprietary information.
- Travel, including overnight stays, required as necessary.
