What are the responsibilities and job description for the Meter Technician position at Schuylkill County Municipal Authority?
Under the direction of the Distribution & Collections Manager, is responsible for the installation, removal, tracking of, and reading of water meters and radio read boxes throughout SCMA’s system.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Installation and removal of water meters and radio read boxes – This person under the director of the D/C Manger will be responsible to install and remove water meters and radio read boxes
- Shutting off and turning on of water – This person under the direction of the D/C Manager will be responsible to Shut Off and Turn Back On water service to SCMA customers.
- Collection of water meter readings – This person under the direction of the D/C Manager and in coordination with the billing clerk will be responsible for the collection of water meter data to enable SCMA to bill for water usage.
- Posting of Delinquent Notice on Properties – This person under the direction of the D/C Manager and in coordination with the collections department will be responsible for the posting of delinquent notice on properties.
- Meeting with Customer Replacing Water Meters 1” or greater – This person under the direction of the D/C Manager and in coordination with the Office Manager will be responsible to determine when a customer is replacing a water meter 1” or greater if any additional changes need to be incorporated under the directions of SCMA.

- Works with varying levels of stress, from very high levels to very low levels.
- Moderate work, with occasional lifting/carrying of objects with weights of 35 pounds.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must demonstrate emotional stability.
- Works with above average indoor office exposure to dust/dirt and noise/vibration.
- Regularly operate company vehicle(s) to perform essential functions.
- Regularly required to talk, hear, and smell.
- Vision abilities to include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Temperature in the workplace is typically moderate.
- Frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places.
- Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
- Frequently work in outside weather conditions.
