We are hiring for an Associate Packaging Engineer in La Palma, CA! They work to develop packaging structural designs, selects appropriate materials, develops good specifications, and ensure commercialization in the plant for new products, product enhancements, and cost reduction projects that meet consumer, customer, business unit, and manufacturing needs.
Responsibilities
- Executes packaging projects in alignment with business units and new product platforms to drive company revenue and profitability with moderate supervision.
- Participates on project teams with Product Development, Packaging Process Engineering, and Procurement to optimize and reduce total packaging costs.
- Implements packaging solutions resulting in reduced cost, faster execution, and simplified processes.
- Contributes to the understanding of why consumers buy products and how packaging can influence purchase decisions.
- Contributes to ideation sessions, qualitative consumer research, and deep dive initiatives to further understand consumers, customers, and market opportunities for the purpose of driving the company's growth.
- Coordinates and conducts packaging performance testing to determine shelf life product protection ability and specification tolerances for primary and secondary packaging.
- Supports projects to address design quality issues in the plants by working with Packaging Process Engineering, Packaging Procurement and Capital Engineering in conjunction with material and equipment suppliers.
- Leverages vendors and outside developers to understand and support technology standards within the packaging organization.
- Documents all work according to established procedures and guidelines; prepares various test reports for business and technical leaders to ensure complete communication of project status, identified issues and resolutions, and timelines with minimal supervision.
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering (or equivalent technical discipline)
- 0-2 years related experience (preferably in Food & Beverage and Consumer Packaged Goods industries) - this is an entry level role!
- Ideally, basic knowledge of product/package development work flow from ideation to product launch in a consumer goods environment.
- Basic working knowledge of ASTM and ISTA packaging test methods, food processing, flow of operations, food industry government agencies, packaging materials, processing equipment, and automated machinery.
- Basic technical problem solving skills using statistics and modeling techniques.
- Intermediate computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, MS Project, and CAD software.
