Schwartz Farms, Inc. was founded in 1978 and at the time was predominantly involved in crop farming. Although Schwartz Farms is still involved in farming, today's primary operations are within the pork industry. Schwartz Farms, Inc. employs over 550 full-time individuals, and owns sows in the upper Midwest, predominantly in Minnesota, Kansas, Iowa, South Dakota, and Nebraska. POSITION OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSE:
As a new Ag Systems Support Specialist at Schwartz Farms, Inc., you will dive right into a variety of engaging responsibilities. The purpose of the position is to conduct audits of emergency back up systems at Contract Producer, Company owned & operated sites & ensure proper documentation thereof. As a result perform authorized maintenance & repair of these systems & documentation thereof. Position may also provide general maintenance and construction support to all company-owned and company-operated production facilities. The position is based out of Sleepy Eye but will require travelling to surrounding territories.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
General Audit, repair & maintenance of emergency backup functions:
- Learn, train and have a thorough understanding of emergency back up systems & control systems used at various Contract Producer & Company owned & operated sites
- Schedule & organize audits of emergency back up systems with Contract Producers & at Company owned & operated sites to ensure systems are functioning as designed to minimize livestock losses, feed, utility & water waste.
- As a result of the audit at Contract Producer Sites, communicate with Contract Producers the findings and recommendations or requirements (per contractual agreement) to bring their systems into a working or upgraded mode.
- In the event of any authorized repair & maintenance functions or upgrades at Contract Producer sites as a result of the audits & communication thereof, ensure proper billing of time, travel & materials.
- Alert Management of escalated issues
- Per Company protocols & manufacturer recommendations, at Company owned & operated sites, perform scheduled & preventative maintenance and any necessary repairs of standby generators, and any other emergency back up system.
- Ensure accurate internal billing of time, travel & materials to the respective Company sites.
- Organize & be responsible for audit, & repair & maintenance records per Company protocols of these emergency back up systems.
General maintenance & repair functions:
- Maintain, repair and rebuild various production mechanisms and equipment to ensure effective operation, including but not limited to loading chutes, feed and water systems
- Provide minor electrical repair and installation
Advocate and engage in SFI's animal welfare policy, including promoting animal well-being, remedying circumstances which impede animal care, and properly reporting instances of mistreatment or abuse

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:
Position may involve non-standard business hours in the event of emergency repairs. Incumbent may carry out several different tasks in a day, or at any number of locations, and may have to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects and work in uncomfortable, awkward or cramped positions, or on ladders. As a result of distance traveled, may involve overnight stays.
