What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Care Specialist (part-time Fri-Mon) position at Schwartz Farms, Inc.?
POSITION OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSE:
The Animal Care Specialist is responsible for providing support to the breeding and/or farrowing teams.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Tasks are dependent upon the department, but may include:
- Provide care for animals, ensuring they have access to food, water and a comfortable environment
- Perform daily production tasks involved in the breeding process, including artificial insemination, heat checks, seasonal vaccination, inventory management, feed monitoring, environment management, records management, etc.
- Perform daily production tasks involved in the farrowing process, including farrowing of sows, sow and piglet care, inventory management, feed monitoring, environment management, records management, etc.
- Assist with movement of animals
- Treat and vaccinate animals
- Maintain accurate documentation
- Assist in power washing
- Promote a safe work environment
- Maintain PQA certification status (provided on the job)
- Follow all SFI bio-security policies and procedures
- Exhibit strong teamwork, including working to achieve team goals, embracing new technologies, working on new projects, etc.
- Be capable of lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. with reasonable accommodation
