The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center (AMC), located in the heart of New York City, seeks a Porter that will be responsible for general site cleaning and sanitizing of public spaces. Daily maintenance of public space refuse collection and preparation for night pull to curb three times weekly. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Porter Position: Five (5) x 8.5 Hour Shifts with 30-minute meal period. Coordinate exact house of weekly schedules in advance including time off.
- Lobby:
- Mirrors – clean w/ window cleaner product.
- Lobby Floors: Vacuum
- Lobby Mats/Recess Mat: Sweep mats 2 times daily. May require additional visits as priority during seasonal weather. Priority.
- Sidewalk:
- Sweep clear and dispose of garbage in containers/bags. This is expected 2 to 3 times during 8 hour shift and may vary depending on conditions.
- As requested, hose sidewalks to street 1 times daily.
- Lobby Bathrooms: 3 total in the lobby each day. Priority must be completed daily. Clean and refresh tissue, toilet paper.
- Lobby bath next to dentist.
- Bathroom within Library.
- Staff Bathroom behind front desk.
- Front Desk (staff only area): Clean when required target once per shift.
- Vacuum package room and desk area, cart storage.
- Wipe counters and clean laundry pickup area/package area.
- Clean desk glass both sides each day.
- Basement Level: As needed to remove full bags. Tidy each workday.
- Garbage Area: Recycle/ Regular, Cans/Bottle Collections: Tie and post full cans to courtyard and replace with appropriate bag color in cans. Prepare for garbage collection twice weekly.
- Laundry Room: Sweep clean each day, wipe down dust from washers/dryers. Report any full machines or laundry left to front desk each day. Report insect tray status to work order book for exterminator.
- Mop Floors: Clean water mop all corridors, laundry rooms, locker rooms. Wash mop and clear bucket for next use.
- Common Area Maintenance as Requested:
- Help/Support Roof Drain Cleaning: As requested support other team members in clearing roof drains or cleaning roof areas of debris causing drainage backup.
- Deep Clean locker rooms and basement bathrooms: As requested clean locker rooms and bathrooms, replace paper products.
- Stairwell Maintenance: When requested daily tasks may be suspended and stairwell maintenance may be requested. Coordinate which tasks are not performed to resolve stairwell maintenance. Priority daily may not be suspended.
- Weather Driven Priority: As requested, or during heavy snow, rain, or inclement weather, clear snow from sidewalks and clean lobby entries and public corridors.
Qualifications:
- High School/GED
- Janitorial Service Certificate of Education is a plus
- 5 years relevant experience in health care or NYC residential
- Ability to read and understand signs and labels written in English
- Training: Any formal MSDS training, or cleaning equipment training is desired.
- Knowledge of MSDS literature for chemical cleaning materials and floor cleaning equipment handling procedures.
- Ability to be flexible and able to perform more than one task at a time
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Must be able to operate tools and equipment used in janitorial work
- Must have knowledge of proper use and care of mechanical cleaning equipment
- Knowledge of OSHA and Safety requirements
