Job Description: Fiber Splicer - Seasonal Position - M-F 8:00am – 5:00pm

Location: Aitkin County, MN

Job Summary

Responsible for the safe and efficient performance of fiber optic splicing. Duties include daily splicing of the fiber optics plant; along with the daily maintenance and transport of the vehicle and splicing trailer.

Job Responsibilities include:

• Read and interpret network installation blueprints and splice schedules
• Splice, test, and repair fiber optic cables to ensure optimal network performance
• Operate specialized equipment and vehicles necessary for fiber optic splicing
• Perform end-to-end fiber tests with OTDR's, power meters, and light sources
• Adhere to industry safety standards and protocols during all installations and repairs
• Document and report on completed installations and any irregularities or issues
• Maintain updated knowledge of the latest fiber optic technology,

equipment, and techniques

• Abide by all company safety requirements and operate in a safe manor
• Responsible for daily maintenance and repairs on truck and trailer according to the company Fleet Safety Program
• Ensure vehicle, trailer, and equipment are kept clean according to company Fleet Safety Program
• Perform basic repairs and maintenance of tooling and equipment
• Must be able to work in all weather conditions
• Responsible for complying with all company safety, OSHA, and DOT standards
• Punctual attendance is required for this position
• Regular overtime may be required; ability to be called in for emergencies when they arise.
• Travel is rare, but may be required
• All other duties associated with splicing work as needed

Experience, and Education:

• HS Diploma/G.E.D required
• Experience in fiber splicing or telecommunications is preferred
• Must have a current valid driver’s license and good driving record. No DUI’s within the last 5 yrs.
