What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Project Manager, Facilities position at Science Museum of Minnesota?
The Senior Facilities Project Manager will manage building renovations and large repair and maintenance projects at the Science Museum of Minnesota, varying in effort, scope, and cost. The position will also be responsible for facility condition assessment data and benchmarking, space utilization and optimization, as well as design and specification activities for office furniture reconfiguration projects. The Senior Facilities Project Manger will incorporate sustainable practices in all aspects of their work.
Some building systems and features are considered to be an exhibition and / or showcase for museum visitors and programs and this position will collaborate with and / or support project leaders across the organization.
Job Duties and Responsibilities :
Key accountabilities include but are not limited to :
Project Management, Customer Service, Vendor Relations, Field Coordination
Act as the museum’s representative with project consultants, vendors, and contractors; monitor on-site activities, coordinate building access, and enforce museum protocols and norms.
Develop project scope, prepare bid documents for solicitation (RFP / RFB), conduct pre-bid and pre-construction meetings.
Lead project administration and stakeholder management, monitor project budgets and controls, review submittals and ensure timely and accurate responses to RFIs, monitor project expenses, review warranty claims, and other tasks as directed.
Revise floor plan documents as various construction activities occur.
Plan, schedule, manage, and proactively report on all aspects of facilities projects to department leadership.
Build relationships and manage communications with internal customers, project stakeholders, external partners to ensure alignment with strategic priorities, operations, and museum-wide initiatives.
Ensure all construction, maintenance, and repair projects are completed safely and securely.
Facility Planning and Space Management
Lead annual facility condition assessment and building data tracking.
Monitor space allocation and utilization data in staff occupied and common areas; generate reports for strategic space and move management projects.
Lead design efforts for office reconfiguration projects by preparing fit tests, scope of work, floor plans and schematic drawings, estimates, furniture selection, and vendor management.
Manage building materials and products library and inventory.
Analyze shop drawings, finish schedules, and fixture and furniture selections for capital projects for adherence to building standards.
Department Collaboration and Support
Support department contract management, procurement, and budget activities in following organization purchasing guidelines.
Maintain department file folders, project documents, and department procedures in accordance with records management plan and institutional archives policies.
Mentor and lead high school interns from the Kitty Anderson Youth Science Center program.
Work with local authorities having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local building and fire codes; maintain records of building inspections and reports.
Conduct regular asset disposal by following established policy and guidelines.
Respond to and assist with fire and weather related emergencies.
Other duties as apparent and / or assigned.

Qualifications :
Required Education, experience, and proficiencies :
Successful completion of post-secondary education in architecture, interior design, construction management, engineering, facilities management, and / or related discipline.
At least eight years of direct experience in commercial building management, architecture, interior design, construction, engineering, or related field.
Proven expertise in initiating and leading repair, maintenance, and / or renovation projects in existing commercial buildings, preferably in a campus, library, museum, or other public building.
Technical proficiency using software tools for 2D drawings and 3D models as planning and communication documents.
An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Preferred experience and certifications :
Licensed Architect (AIA), Certified Interior Designer (CID), Certified Facility Manager (CFM), or equivalent design professional license / certification.
OSHA-30 Hour for Construction.
Working knowledge of building systems, including structural, electrical, life safety, plumbing, and mechanical.
Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, codes, and / or statutes.
Fluency in language(s) other than English is valued.
A curious and creative approach to problem solving is desired.
Work Environment :
The primary work environment is an on-site office setting. Flexibility for remote work is available with approval.
Required to safely access : museum artifact storage, biology labs, and fabrication shop spaces; building system spaces such as roofs, mechanical and electrical rooms, and interior and exterior construction sites.
Ability to work in and around visitors and personnel in a busy public museum setting.
Occasional travel off-site is required.
Starting compensation for this role is $65,018k - $80,000k
