The Program Staff Supervisor is part of the STEM Education Department within the STEM Equity and Education Division (SEED). Work closely with the Summer Camp leadership team to provide a safe, developmentally appropriate learning environment. Support our summer camp program by providing direction, support and evaluation for STEM Education Program Staff. Provide small group and one-on-one support, mentorship, and consultation for staff. Engage in communication with parents and primary caregivers regarding any incidents, track behavior reports, and promote the overall wellbeing of program participants and staff. Serve as a reliable resource and key support for the delivery of learning experiences that translate STEM concepts that center equity into facilitated learning experiences that are inclusive, engaging, fun, and educational for a broad range of learners and staff.
This is a seasonal summer camp position.
Job Duties and Responsibilities :
- Supervise, evaluate, coach, and develop program staff to result in the optimum motivation, recognition, and retention of high performing employees that meet the museum’s strategic and business needs.
- Advocate and build support networks and pathways for program staff positions and experience.
- Manage systems for scheduling, evaluating, and supporting staff to fit the needs of staff and camp leadership.
- Work with program participants and staff to develop their skills in organization, communication, emotional regulation, and problem solving.
- Attend to the emotional needs of staff and program participants, engage in active listening, demonstrate empathy and communicate any issues to the Summer Camp Leadership Team.
- Encourage staff and participant engagement and enthusiasm in program activities by modeling behavior expectations and helping to create a positive learning environment.
- Develop, nurture, and sustain internal relationships with summer camp staff. Seek to provide a safe, predictable environment for program participants and staff.
- Develop and implement proactive and preventative strategies where appropriate to support program participants and staff . Follow up when additional support is needed.
- Understand and use appropriate diversity, equity, access, and inclusion strategies when working with staff and program participants with special needs and from diverse backgrounds. Work to ensure our Summer Camp programs are reflective of SMM’s Equity Value and Equity and Inclusions Statement.
- Troubleshoot and handle any health, accident, or discipline problems or questions; serve as lead and first point of contact with internal partners as part of the Summer Camp Leadership team, such as department staff and Museum Public Safety (MPS) to ensure positive outcomes for all.
- Understand and keep current on all safety and emergency procedures through established annual training. Follow and model all policies and procedures to ensure all safety precautions are adhered to.
- Collect, process, and monitor behavior incident and medical incident reports. Organize and share this data with the Summer Camp leadership team.
- Communicate directly with parents and caregivers (in person, by phone, or online) about behavior, health, injuries, and other issues or concerns regarding program participants.
