Technology Project Managers lead project teams of technologists and business subject matter experts to deliver value for SMM customers across the entire institution. Technology Project Managers help write user stories, plan team work capacity, prioritize work around museum strategies, and ensure rapid delivery of value to SMM’s visitors and staff. Technology Project Managers help technologists collaborate with teams across the organization in the delivery of digital aspects of Exhibit Development, Infrastructure, Business Tools, and Customer Experience.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Lead technology project teams to ensure the agile delivery of projects while monitoring budget, schedule, scope, and support of SMM’s Technology Strategy.
Advocate for SMM customer needs with business owners across the organization to turn ideas into actionable technology requirements and user stories that can be developed by in-house staff and external contractors.
Act as a translator for technologists by describing technical work in terms that all project team members can understand and make decisions around.
Coordinate the smooth flow of work by holding regular project team meetings to prioritize work, eliminate roadblocks, and surface decisions that need to be escalated to a different group.
Advocate for technology innovation and features in service of the customer and the principles of the overall SMM Technology Strategy.
Lead agile project management processes such as daily standups, sprint planning sessions, and team retrospectives.
Document and manage project details in a central project management tool (Jira) for visibility across the organization.
Manage project budgets by working with the Director of Museum Technology, internal and external partners, and SMM’s Finance & Accounting team.
Source, recruit, and manage external contractor relationships to assist with staff capacity augmentation and specialized technology development.
Communicate proactively with the SMM community, external service providers, and customers to share the status of projects throughout the value-delivery pipeline.
Collaborate with project leadership staff throughout the museum to solve capacity, schedule, budget, and priority conflicts in service of the SMM’s overall strategy.
Develop a high-level understanding of SMM’s technology stack that powers our Infrastructure, Customer Experience, Website, and Exhibit products.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: No formal education necessary.
Experience:
1-2 years experience leading Agile teams in the delivery of technology products.
1-2 years experience managing the delivery of digital projects.
Work Environment: Hybrid work environment, where some regular on-site work is required. Occasional travel off-site to facilitate team work and meetings.
Starting compensation for this role is $75,246 - $79,258
