THE POSITION IN A NUTSHELL
Sciens Building Solutions is seeking an experienced Senior Fire Service Technician with programming, troubleshooting, and repair capabilities and experience. This position will work closely with our service team, and clients to ensure our critical life safety systems are repaired in an efficient manner to maintain their overall performance. This is a key position for our growing team and requires attention to detail in all aspects of system troubleshooting and repair. Customer and employee interface requires a high degree of effective human relations. Communication skills, both written and verbal, are important elements of the position.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING (and doing well!)
- Troubleshoot and repair fire life safety systems including conventional, addressable, voice systems, complex smoke control, and networked solutions.
- Use a variety of troubleshooting tools to analyze systems and detect fault conditions.
- Ensure maximum system detection and alarm coverage when effecting repairs.
- Manage repair reports in accordance with NFPA for customer acceptance and billing information.
- Program manufacturers’ advanced system product platform(s)/graphical systems.
- Manage vehicle inventory and repair tools.
- Provide support, guidance, and expertise to other technicians, training them on equipment as well as company policies and procedures.
- Make on-site decisions pertaining to the strategic installation of audible and visual notification systems.
- Determine the optimal placement of detection devices to ensure efficient and effective implementation of safety and security measures.
- Manage project repair scheduling and job progress in an efficient and cost-effective manner, with a strong focus on quality.
- Interpret smoke report sequence of operations and verify system operation base.
- Provide technical support to end users when required.
- Demonstrate proper operation of equipment and control units to customers, including how it is to be used and how to respond to any system signals.
- Comply with standards and procedures of industry and Sciens safety programs/policies.
WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT YOU
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five (5) years of experience in a repair or systems technician role within the fire-life safety industry.
- Knowledge of current fire alarm systems, including smoke control, graphic user interfaces, and networked solutions.
- Demonstratable mastery of fire alarm circuit integrity and how to troubleshoot for circuit opens, shorts, and/or ground conditions.
- Independent ability to program multiple manufacturer's advanced system product platform(s)/graphical systems. Ability to read and understand a smoke report sequence of operations and the verify system operation based on that sequence.
- Experience with systems such as Gamewell/FCI, Farenhyt, Silent Knight, and/or FireLite preferred.
- Knowledge of NFPA 72 code requirements.
- Advanced knowledge of Article 760 of NFPA 70 (electrical code) for the installation of fire systems and circuiting.
- Advanced knowledge of Section 907 of the International Fire Code or state-adopted fire code.
- Advanced knowledge of Section 909 of the International Building Code or state-adopted building code.
- Knowledgeable of state, federal, and other regulatory requirements for testing of fire alarm systems.
- NICET level II.
- Ability to demonstrate proper operation of equipment and control units to customers and explain how it is to be used, and how to respond to any systems signals.
- Ability to read fire system design drawings.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and with a sense of urgency.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and able to obtain OSHA 10 certifications.
- Customer-focused; skilled in project and people management.
- Proficient in issue resolution.
- Excellent organizational, decision-making, and communication skills.
- Be physically fit to perform the demanding work of the trade, including frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds, maximum occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; able to work from heights and climb ladders; standing and walking for most of the workday.
- Ability to travel occasionally overnight as needed.
- Able to pass background check and pre-employment drug screening.
