Scientific Forming Technologies Corp. (SFTC) develops the DEFORM

system for metal manufacturing process simulation. The finite-element analysis (FEA) software simulates processes such as cold forming, forging, rolling, extrusion, sheet metal forming, mechanical joining, machining, heat treatment and material modeling. It is utilized by designer, engineers and researchers in the aerospace, automotive, defense, medical, energy and materials industries. Customers rely on the DEFORM simulation software to replace physical trials, reduce costs, shorten development time and improve product quality. System products include DEFORM Premier, DEFORM-3D, DEFORM-2D, Forming Express (3D) and Forming Express (2D).

SFTC, located in in Columbus, Ohio, is seeking qualified candidates for application engineering roles related to the DEFORM system. Daily activities range from technical support, license troubleshooting, product testing, quality assurance, model validation and software training. Technical support staff regularly interacts with customers and international distributors via phone, email and web meetings. Staff may be asked to travel, up to a few times a year, to trade shows, conferences or customer facilities.

The position requires the ability to efficiently handle multiple tasks in a dynamic, customer-driven environment. The role is excellent for those who enjoy problem solving, collaboration and continuous learning. It provides exposure to a wide range of engineering topics and manufacturing applications. Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary.

Responsibilities :

  • Provide technical assistance to users and distributors of the DEFORM software.
  • Troubleshoot problematic FEA simulation models and identify root cause.
  • Engage with the development team to address root cause, if necessary.
  • Develop technical solutions and transfer that knowledge to the end-user.
  • Evaluate, test and validate new product features, tools and applications.
  • Identify best modeling practices for specific simulation applications.
  • Work with CAD models of metal forming products and tooling.
  • Provide application and industrial expertise to development activities.
  • Collaborate with the quality assurance team in bug reporting and resolution.
  • Aid in the development of training content and assist in training of users.
  • Generate case studies and application examples for marketing and support uses.
  • Contribute to marketing literature, support documentation and publications.
  • Participate in exhibiting at select trade shows and conferences.
  • Give technical presentations at select SFTC events and industry conferences.
  • Make visits to customers at their facilities.

Minimum requirements :

  • Full-time position
  • On-site work in Columbus, Ohio
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in engineering
  • Industrial or finite-element modeling experience
  • Travel 1-3 times per year
  • Preferred qualifications :

  • B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Industrial Engineering, Material Science Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience in the metal manufacturing industry
  • Experience with DEFORM or similar FEA software
  • CAD modeling skills
