Role Summary:
The Assistant Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing the manufacturing organization, offering support for process improvements, quality assurance, and direct profit and loss management. The role ensures efficiency, quality, and operational enhancement programs while being accountable for safety, minimizing spoilage, controlling costs, optimizing labor utilization, and supporting key customer projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary point of contact for customer quality concerns and service needs.
Execute continuous improvement programs targeting spoilage reduction, safety, efficiency, and labor utilization.
Guide and support production staff to ensure the production of high-quality products and achieve high customer satisfaction.
Ensure that staff have the necessary information and tools to work safely. Implement procedures to eliminate workplace hazards.
Review and respond to reports, requests, and other documents to maintain cost-effective and quality operations.
Lead quality initiatives, including SPC, and address quality issues.
Maintain 24-hour internal and external communication to ensure operational excellence.
Manage costs effectively, including controlling overtime.
Collaborate with the Plant Manager and HR to address and resolve personnel issues.
Contribute to the development of training and safety programs aimed at employee continuous improvement and performance excellence.
Encourage accountability and performance among production staff, fostering a culture of problem-solving.
Coordinate with production planning to ensure proper scheduling and workforce allocation.
Work closely with corporate functions on strategic planning.
Develop employees for future growth and advancement.
Directly supervise plant personnel; responsibilities may vary by plant.
Perform additional responsibilities and projects as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Associate’s degree or proven track record of success in progressive leadership roles in the packaging industry.
Minimum of 5 years of management experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Experience with manufacturing improvement methods.
Experience working with self-directed teams.
Work Conditions:
This position operates in a manufacturing facility with noise from machinery. Frequent use of company communication devices such as computers, cell phones, and printers is required. Employees must use hearing protection and other PPE. Temperatures can range from extreme cold (<40 degrees) to extreme heat (>90 degrees). The environment may include fumes, dust, and odors. Physical activities include standing, walking, handling objects, talking, hearing, reaching, and lifting up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision and color recognition.
