Scion Executive Search has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for a highly collaborativeGrant Accountantfor one of the largest providers of social services for the state of Washington. This incredible opportunity plays a key role as part of a regional team responsible for a $100M budget. You will have your own portfolio of 5-8 property and program managers. This full-time position offers a salary of$80,000 $85,000/year DOE;ahybrid scheduleout of Seattle, WA 98144; a robust benefits package including a 403b and a pension plan.

The Role:Reporting to the Director of Finance the Grant Accountant is responsible for managing the financial activities related to property assets, capital projects, and grant funding. This position ensures compliance with funder requirements, maintains accurate financial records, and supports the organization's mission by effectively managing resources.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Grant Accounting:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of all grants related to the buildings, including allowable activities, expenditures, and compliance requirements.
  • Accurately maintain financial records for all grants, ensuring proper tracking of restricted and unrestricted funds.
  • Prepare and submit supporting documentation for monthly or quarterly cost reimbursement and fixed-price invoices for various government and non-profit contracts in a timely manner.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of grant-related accounts to ensure correct fund allocation and compliance with grant terms. Work closely with program staff to align program costs with grant restrictions and approved expenses.
  • Accurately track and reconcile grant receivables, monitor outstanding payments, and resolve any discrepancies with funders.
  • Record and reconcile pass-through funding to Catholic Community Services.
  • Assist in preparing the SEFA (Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards) and other governmental schedules required for the agencys audit.
  • Support the development of annual program budgets.

Property Accounting:

  • Monitor accounting records and supporting documentation, identifying and resolving inconsistencies by regularly reviewing data entered into the property management and accounts payable workflow software.
  • Collaborate with property managers to ensure all activities within the property management software are closed monthly in preparation for financial reporting.
  • Review building-related expensesincluding utilities, repairs, maintenance, and payrollto verify accuracy and completeness.
  • Generate monthly financial statements, conduct a preliminary review comparing actual results to the budget, and investigate variances.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end schedules and reconciliations for key balance sheet accounts, including cash, reserves, intercompany transactions, accounts receivable, and debt.
  • Provide financial guidance and accounting support to property managers, helping them interpret financial statements.
  • Oversee project accounting for both new and ongoing construction projects, working closely with the Asset Management and Real Estate Development teams.
  • Assist in preparing annual budgets for the properties.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with organizational accounting policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Maintain strong internal controls over grant and property-related financial transactions.
  • Continuously assess grant and property management processes and recommend improvements as needed.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing reconciliation reports and relevant documentation, maintaining comprehensive records to facilitate audits and compliance reviews.
  • Reconcile and prepare schedules and reports required for federal, state, and private grant funders to ensure compliance with audit standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field highly preferred.
  • 3 years of nonprofit grant accounting experience
  • Experience managing and reporting on grants (federal, state, local, and private).
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200).
  • Proficiency with accounting software.
  • Experience working in a multi-entity organization is highly desirable.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including financial modeling and pivot tables.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex financial information to diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with MRI Accounting software.
  • Experience with AvidXchange.
  • Familiarity with affordable housing and HUD-subsidized housing programs.
  • Experience using Boston Post Property Management software.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

This impactful and highly rewarding full-time opportunity offers a competitive base salary of $80,000$85,000 based on experience, a hybrid schedule option, plus a robust benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, FSA option, commuter/parking subsidy, 403b, and a pension plan.
