What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Associate, Molecular Biology (Contract) position at Scismic?

Scismic is supporting the growth of a biotech startup in Seattle, WA that is developing smart cell therapies that reprogram complex biological processes in ways that small molecules and biologics cannot.

The Synthetic Biology & Biophysics team is seeking a highly motivated Molecular Biology Research Associate to support construct design and cloning, DNA preparation, and inventory management.

Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to):

  • Perform routine molecular biology techniques, including but not limited to cloning, assembly, transformation, plasmid DNA prep and PCR, both manually and on automation platform
  • Manage inventory of required materials and maintain lab equipment to support DNA construction and preparation
  • Support technology development and implement new molecular biology technologies
  • Keep good records of lab work in electronic lab notebook (ELN) and in-house database
  • Gather data, perform analysis and present results to team members

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or a closely-related field
  • Experience in DNA construct design, PCR, cloning (traditional restriction enzyme cloning, Gibson cloning, Golden Gate cloning), transformation, DNA preparation (mini-, midi-, maxi-, giga-preps), handling and inventory management
  • DNA sequence analysis and in-silico cloning with minimal guidance
  • Strong organizational, time management, and documentation skills
  • Detail oriented and thorough, self-motivated, and be capable to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability and desire to work in a fast paced, start up environment

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with high-throughput cloning
  • Experience with wet lab automation system such as Biomek, Echo, Qpix
  • Experience with high throughput DNA analysis on TapeStation, LabChip, Lunatic
  • Familiar with benchling and SQL
  • Experience with bioinformatics and NGS

Salary Range:

$68,000 - $75,000 a year
