Instructional Coach

JOB SUMMARY: Oversee the total instructional program and school improvement process as related to student achievement; focusing on the areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development.
Reports to: Executive Director
OVERSEES Teaching and Learning – License teachers
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS OF WORK: Experience background in urban learning. Ability to develop programs, and evaluate instruction to provide feedback to teachers on areas of improvement needed to increase student achievement.
EDUCATION & TRAINING: Preferably a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction or similar.
EXPERIENCE: 2 or more years of successful teaching and some staff leadership experience.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Effective problem solving; working knowledge of Minnesota standards, standards-based education, and effective instructional strategies, research-based; working knowledge of students' data systems, assessment, and student information; evidence of effective collaboration skills, evidence of leadership, and continued professional development. Has a specific knowledge/background in curriculum design and data-driven instructional practices.
Responsibilities
1. Leads all instructional staff, which involves but is not necessarily limited to:
- Conduct ongoing formative evaluations of teaching staff including walk-throughs of each classroom at least twice weekly, giving teachers feedback and input. And provide the necessary support
- Conduct formal/summative evaluations with teacher
- Review lesson plans to make sure all lessons have learning targets and are focused on student achievement goals.
- Reviewing curriculum-based assessment analysis to make sure teachers are using data to inform instruction on a daily basis and for meeting individualized student learning goals.
- Assuring that instructional models are followed.
2. Design develops and coordinates goals and objectives for school improvement plans:
- Identifies and implements scientifically researched-based curriculum, classroom practices, and professional development to offer the greatest opportunities for improvement of student achievement.
- Makes sure that the curriculum is organized to meet the learning goals of students over the course of the year and broken up into monthly units of instruction, which then also guides weekly and daily lesson plans.
- Guides Professional Learning Community work, assuring the Urban Academy PLC’s focus on improvement of student learning.
- Prepares reports with the Executive Director for federal and state grants and district and school improvement plans; comparability reports, performance reports, and other reports as requested or required.
- Is the main person responsible for reporting progress on the overall school improvement plan through reports and informal information sharing to the School Board, the Executive Director
- Oversee and Coordinates the Special Education and ELL (English Language Learners programs
- Assesses professional development needs; develops training plans including Coaching, workshops, seminars, group discussions, and use of consultants.
- Develops and implements a personal professional development plan aligned to the school improvement plan and school mission.
- Approves the acquisition of instructional supplies, materials, and equipment and shall make recommendations for expenditures from capital outlay consistent with the established programs and the goals and objectives adopted for the School District.
- Recruits, screens and maintains a current resource of qualified teachers and personnel to enhance the instructional program and recommends to the Executive Director for employment.
- Recommends assignments, dismissals, and promotions to the Executive Director.
- Works closely with the Executive Director and the school’s primary curriculum consultant

Pay: $55,050.00 - $70,550.00 per year
