SciTech Services, Inc. is seeking a Cage Wash Technician to perform maintenance, routine sanitation, and autoclave animal cages. The Cage Wash Technician performs general duties associated with cage maintenance, facility sanitation, and preparation for reuse in a research setting.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Cleans and sanitizes animal cages or equipment according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Handles clean caging and equipment appropriately, puts clean bedding into cages and restocks supplies.
- Monitors and records results of cage wash water temperature using temperature strips.
- Disposal of waste following appropriate Standard Operating Procedures.
- Assists in sanitation and decontamination in all areas of the facility.
- Understand and follow appropriate safety procedures and quality assurance guidelines.
- Manual lifting requiring the ability to lift 50 lbs., pull, push, and handle cages, racks, large pieces of equipment, feed, bedding, and other materials in the research facility.
- Receives and stores materials, food, and supplies.
- Transports caging supplies between animal rooms and cage washrooms.
- Reports mechanical failures promptly and properly to the supervisor.
- Performs microbiological sampling in accordance with SOP.
- Ensures that all logbooks, checklists, and other records are completed in a timely fashion.
- Follow existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality assurance standards.
- Assist with basic animal husbandry support and housekeeping duties such as trash collection, cleaning animal facility laboratories, offices, and ancillary areas.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent education required.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, with a positive attitude.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, lift, pull, and push equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Work is performed in an area that is noisy and has relatively high ambient temperature (greater than 77°F).
- Ability to properly use required personal protective equipment including putting on and removal.
- Must have the ability to complete necessary documentation of collected data.
