What are the responsibilities and job description for the ESY School Adjustment Counselor-SUM25 position at Scituate Public School District?
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The ESY School Adjustment Counselor promotes and enhances the overall academic mission by helping build skills in students to manage any social/emotional/situational barriers to learning. The ESY Counselor significantly contributes to the development of a healthy, safe and caring environment by advancing the understanding of the emotional and social development of children and the influences of family, community and cultural differences on student success and by implementing effective intervention strategies for the individual student. The ESY Counselor will provide social skills groups to students identified as needing adjustment counseling over the summer due to regression. Groups will focus on middle school students and will be 90 minutes long twice per week for five weeks. Counselor may need to also meet with individual students in crisis, and may need to provide consultation to staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide social skills group counseling 2 x 90 minutes at the Gates School
- Provide individual crisis counseling (if needed) to students.
- Consult with staff around student academic and social performance in and out of the classroom (if needed during ESY).
- Performs other related duties assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or their designee.
QUALIFICATIONS-REQUIRED:
- Master’s in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling from a school accredited by the Department of Education
- Massachusetts School Adjustment/Social Worker Certification
- Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment.
QUALIFICATIONS-PREFERRED:
- A minimum of three year’s of post-Master’s experience, including at least 1-2 years of school system experience preferred
TERMS: Part-time, Summer 2025, Pay is $51.02 per hour or based on individual vendor contract (non-employee).
