The Senior Cost Accountant collaborates with the other members of the Cost Accounting team to ensure the availability of accurate and timely costing and inventory information for senior management and other stakeholders. This is done by actively handling day-to-day reporting, costing, forecasting, annual budgeting, period-end and year-end accounting/finance functions, ad hoc analyses, and special projects as needed. The Senior Cost Accountant updates and manages data reporting systems and processes to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management. This position requires an analytical mindset, critical thinking skills, adaptability with a high aptitude for learning and highly developed organizational and task management skills. Success in this role requires quick learning, a positive attitude, and a strong work ethic in a fast-paced environment, as well as strong interpersonal and analytical skills.

Estimated starting annual base salary is $112,717.99 - $169,076.98 per year less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a bi-weekly basis. Please note that the actual compensation offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined by the Company, which may include, but is not limited to, location, experience, qualifications, education, skillset, and market conditions. The target base compensation for this role is in the low to middle of the range, with the top of the range reserved for only exceptional circumstances. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary, variable annual incentive, paid based on Company performance factors. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete monthly period-end close-related tasks including preparing journal entries, expense accruals, and cost/ variance analysis to ensure accurate, consistent, and timely reporting of financial results.
  • Contribute to the timely completion of monthly balance sheet account reconciliations including resolving reconciling items.
  • Perform cost center expense reviews and reconciliations and make proper adjustment journal entries as needed.
  • Maintain and manage accuracy of Bills of Materials (BOM) related to finished goods as entered in the ERP system.
  • Analyze material usage variances arising from variety inventory transactions relating to manufacturing process, such as adjustments, scraps, PPV, and other cogs variances, and provide written and verbal explanations to management.
  • Analyze and understand material usage yield loss and make recommendations on corrective courses of action.
  • Collaborate with the procurement team to monitor inbound freight trends and make recommendations for possible adjustments in future forecasts and budgets.
  • Collect, update, and analyze all relevant costing data to develop and maintain standard cost for material, rates, routings on labor, and overhead across multiple production lines.
  • Support the publication of weekly operational reporting, dashboards, and flashes as required.
  • Partner with the operations and supply chain teams to develop a timely and well-thought-out annual budget and a related set of updated standard costs.
  • Actively participate in periodic forecast requests throughout the year.
  • Support the commercial finance team in reporting margins by product and/or by customer.
  • Partner with cross functional teams on projects that identify cost reduction opportunities and periodically provide management with updates on the progress of these projects.
  • Partner with operations and supply chain to identify and analyze capital investments that reduce manufacturing costs and/or expand manufacturing capacity.
  • Maintain the company’s accounting policies and procedures in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Create reports and conduct ad hoc analyses, as needed.

 

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
  • 7 years’ professional experience in cost accounting, cost analysis, general accounting, or similar function.
  • 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing company.
  • 3 years’ experience preparing annual budgets.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Advanced knowledge of general accounting procedures (GAAP).
  • Strong understanding of standard costing methodology.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook. Proficiency with Excel pivot tables, Power Pivot, and Power BI.
  • Excellent analytical, organization, prioritization, and written communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and a team-player with the ability to be flexible to changing business needs.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with internal staff and management.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Must be able to demonstrate practical problem solving and trouble shooting skills. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Accounting certification (e.g., CMA).
  • Experience with NetSuite or AMAPS.
